I just got an email this morning re a Casino Night fundraiser for the school district I live in. I asked them if they needed event coverage and sent them a quote and they accepted, albeit for a little less, but I will change the package up to come out ahead.

It's only an hour and they only need prints on CD, so it'll be easy.

    First paid shoot woot.
    good luck dude!

Wow dude, that is just crazy haha.

And the Heiniken is really good too.

If you had posted that and said you copied it from their website and were looking to immitate it, id have believed you bwahahahaha.

          Yes its that good.

I just found out a friend of my wifes(older then us, mid 50's maybe) her husband does product photography, mainly food. Checked out his site and it's ridiculously good!

Ill have to post it when I rememeber.

Im thinking about marketing myself mainly for events. I was reading and I found that people said a big reason photographers have trouble attracting business is because they don't focus on one type of photography.

Id kind of hate to "limit" myself, but the few portrait sessions I did with my own daughter were far from easy. It was a lot of work. Id be hesitant about the quality with all that work with strangers!

Also you really need props and backgrounds. That becomes an expense.

I have shot some grad parties and bday parties, and while it is also work, its not as mentally taxing. Just make sure you WB is good, and make sure you get "the shots" and then you can have fun with the rest.

Who doesn't like attending parties lol?!?!

And it calls for more $ then just portrait shoots. Not to mention that most people in my area are looking for either mini sessions for like $50 or are ok going to JC Penny.

So it's not the best crowd.

I have a few people biting for holiday shoots, but no one has confirmed yet. The only confirm is that Casino night which is in March.

I also need to contact this landscaper who wanted me to do shots of his work for his website.

Wasn't sure how to price that, figured an hourly rate?

The .. and I repeat, THE harrrdest thing to shoot .. for me anyway .. MAN!
I should be clearer and perhaps say that, the "curve" for creating really insane food shots, specially "hot off the stove" shots .. incredible bust ass work lol!

Interesting! Back in the day, if you didn't do other type of photography, they starved!

I took some back roads on the way back from my grandma's instead of the interstate and came across this awesome place. It's a former lead mine, turned into a museum. I stopped for a couple of hours and had a ton of fun shooting these.

This is an outtake image from a catalog cover shoot for the 2015 Diode Dynamics catalog that I shot with their in-house photographer Travis Carroll.

I started in LR with a base correction and exported to PS. Once in PS, I created another layer and filled in the corners and got rid of the sensor dirt (not my camera!). Then I cut the top of the brick building from another image with a slightly different camera angle and warped it to fit to cover 99% of the rig, then edited out the remaining bit of rig on the car and reflected in the windshield. Once I was done in PS, i went back into LR to add a vignette and do the final color correction.

Man I wish you lived closer, I would love to follow you around haha.

I haven't really done that much this winter. Been busy with my daughter but I did have a paid family portrait session on Dec 26. I should post a few.

I have another shoot on Feb 8 for a dancer. She needs headshots and posed shots for a portfolio. Really excited about that, because I will really get to use light to sculpt her in different poses.

I got my confirmation for March for the fundraiser. Just providing event photo coverage.

                            Hey Jayson I was curious-

I saw those pics of the paint gun on Flickr. What do you use to hold up that reflector...it looks like something that is adjustable as far as angle is concerned?

I am looking for something similar so I can make use of the DIY reflector I made(poster board with tin foil)

                            Comment

Which reflector are you talking about? I ran out of stands so i had to be creative. The stand on the left is a boom stand that is hoding both the flash (with a super clamp and an extension arm) and the reflector (hanging off the end with a screwdriver through the eye to keep it from falling off and a super clamp on the leg to keep it at the right angle). The one on the right is just an umbrella adapter with a super clamp at the top instead of a flash.

I'm usually a grip on film sets, so I have a lot of "grip gear", IE clamps, arms, stands, and adjustments to be able to put just about anything anywhere. I have to get creative a lot. About half of my Instagram (@jcareyphoto)is fixes and rigs I've done on various sets.

Ya I am talking about that one on the right holding up the square reflector.

I need a clamp that will hold up a square reflector and allow me to change its position to help with fill light.
