Any of you guys have the tokina 12-24 for nikon?

Looks like this is the best low budget wide angle for nikon cams.

Actually, I got one. Tokina 12-24mm f4 right? I love it. Probably one of the best built lenses I have. Its a tank. The only better choice is the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 but its also about 200 more. the lens is sharp and has internal zoom so it doesn't extend when you zoom. There are 2 versions of it with the second one being updated with a focus motor I believe, double check tho. I got the V1 and focus is quick and accurate on both D90 and D200. I got mine used in mint condition on Craigslist for 360.

              I knew someone had one!

I'm not worried about focusing, I have a d200 now as well. No more stupid no focusing d40.

Anyways... do you have any pictures taken at 12mm f/4. I'm wondering what the distortion looks like, I'm actuallly a fan of the distortion.

Like this kind of look, but this was just 18mm.

I actually miss teh 18-55 kit lens that I sold along with the d40, but I figure a 12-24 should replace it nicely.

Thanks, yea I need a better tripod. i dont really use it much(baically for night shots) so I cant really warrant $100 + dollars on one.

Took these two shots tonight at the local S2000 meet. It's of my friend Omars car.

Your rig looks pretty solid, but two things.
Check your backgrounds. The tree in the first one is distracting.
Second, try to have the driver not look at the camera, another distracting element.
Good shots though and a very sick car.

I got the pieces for my rig a few weeks ago but didn't really get a chance to use it until last night.

I was kind of iffy about keeping the tree in the shot. I put it back in because I thought the top of the car was getting lost in the darkness so i brought the tree back to define it a little. I'll try subduing the tree a bit. Thanks for your C&C.

Nice! Did you go the simple two suction cup/super clamps/magic arm route? Also, did you get it all from one place or did you shop around for better prices?

Yup, I got two f1000 suction cups, 3 super clamps and a magic arm. I was using an extendable manfrotto pole at first but it flexed too much so i ended up just using a couple of metal pipes from Home Depot and used a coupler to join them together. I got all my pieces locally at Samy's Camera.

Ilovemycb7, i can take a few shots for you if you want but I highly suggest you head over to www.pixel-peeper.com. Its a site with example shots for various cameras and lenses taken by people in real life conditions. Great site.

Yeah, that sounds like a good setup. I wish my local camera shops carried more gear.
