Get a real deal flash, you will never go back. I got to play with one just last week and now I feel like a little school boy bitch whenever I have to use the built in flash.

It takes A LOT of flashes to light a car. One more flash isn't gonna cut it. That's why I just don't have any.

Taking night shots is really hard. I dunno.

J-spec uses some good lighting for those engine bay shots though. And he's lit up his whole car well... waiting for him to chime in.

I had an older Fujifilm one, but it broke. It was good enough while it lasted though. I told my parents I wanted a new one for my birthday. I don't know if it'll happen after they see the price.

Correct. It does take alot to light up a car for a nice picture. I belive cris uses about 3. i think 2 of them are 580exII's.

i'm so glad i have a real deal flash, makes taking pictures alot more easier and makes objects stand out more with sharpness, contrast and color. its amazing what a flash can do to ones picture.

Yeah... but for shooting cars you do NEED 3. Maybe a straight on front shot you can do 2. But yeah... and you need bright ones. It's expensive...

Photography is all about light and when all you have to add to a scene is the output of the built in flash, you're going to be severely limited (sooooo want an SB-600).

Also, I got in my new lens today and took a few shots with it. I feel like I need to get my skills up the level of these things before I buy any more. I'll try and get some decent shots up this week. VR is amazing btw.

Haha, yeah it is. Too bad I still have limited knowledge of what the balls I'm doing. Whatever, here are a few HIGHLY touched up pics from earlier today. I was shooting in pretty harsh direct sunlight. Later on I'll go around sunset and see if I can get a few more reasonable exposures. My filthy car doesn't help much either.

TN were you using a tripod? I did for my first couple times with the lens but since haven't been... I think I need to go back to using it. Even though it's a pita.
