Hey everyone go back and look at the three from J-specCb4, starting with the shot of the RS-X. That one is magazine-worthy, and taken with a $350 point-and-shoot (albeit a nice one. Bought my dad one, he dropped it and cracked open the case and it's still perfect.)

You could snag a cheap old Canon or Nikon (or ___) on eBay and still take shots good enough for the Internet. Take for example the Canon A60, a predecessor to the A95/A85/A80/A75/A70 etc. It's only 2-megapixel but for most shots is all you need. Probably $20 on eBay right now.

My point here is a fancy SLR won't save your ass --- you still need to know what to do. SLRs just allow you more freedom should you choose to take it.

Juan --- love the macros but my fav is the cut timber. I used to live in the Pacific Northwest and always wanted to shoot stacked timber but never got around to it. I think I have a secret timber fetish. Forget I said anything, Dr. Freud.

yeah thanks guys i absolutely loed my a95 and sometimes i even miss it over my dslr just cuz of the simplicity and not needing to set it up for each shot... u can do this with a dslr too i just cant bring myself to shoot in anything but manual mode... just something i feel so i can learn better anfd be more and more comfortable

i should hook you up wiht my dad, hes a camera freak, hes had his stuff in nature photography magazines a few times. hes got 6 cannon cameras, and a closet full of lenses, one lens is litterally over a foot long and can zoom up to an ant from like 10 feet away, its insane how powerful his lenses are.

on average he spends maybe 20 hours a week taking photos at lakes and in parks, 2 hours almost everyday when he gets home from work, and on weekends hes up at 5am - noon taking photos of flowers with dew on them and shit.

An slr is nice and give you flexibility but it wont make you a better operator. It takes alot to be a professional photog, I mean sure you can find work doing stuff you dont want to be doing and getting paid for it, but if you want to do your own thing you really need to be pushing some ideas that no one else is.

The A95 is the same as the A510, except the A510 is smaller and requires less power.

I got mine for $175, 1 year ago. Now you can probably get it for close to $100.

                      http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho...&s=electronics

theyre still about the same. but im sure you can find better deals. amazon can be overpriced at times.

ive been looking at the olympus sp350 on some site, and it was 200+(i forget the exact figure) and i went to costco today and saw it for 199.99.

Pretty much same as all other Canon A5xx series cameras, but this one has a 5mp sensor.

not trying to thread jack, but i saw somebody mention the canon powershot a95.

i've got one, but it's been mishandled by a few people, and is now broken.

but, while i did have it, i took these pictures.
