    my first owned dslr

i'm excited. friday i bought my first personally owned dslr.

i got a slighly (barely) used nikon d3000 with vr 18-55mm lens. also included in sale was a 8gb memory card and a lowepro dslr backpack

i was gonna listen to most people on here and get a d40 for starters and upgrade from that later on (and also saving my extra tax money to paint my teggy) but i couldn't pass this up. a new d40 was around $450+$500ish..

i offered this guy $400 (originally wanted $450) and he said yea, i had trouble coming up with the $400 so i offered $380 since my tax refund too soooo long to get here. he accepted and i got all for $380..seems like a pretty good deal to me. he had original box, everything is mint. original reciept when he paid like $600+ last year and everything. the d3000 and the d40 are almost the same..and seems like a good starter camera =] i wanted to get a d90 or a canon eos t2i but maybe later on..

i started using the camera and i loved it..its gonna take some getting used to, but i'm getting the hang of it. the setup is alot different than all the other cameras i've ever used. anyone ever used a d3000 and maybe have some tips for me? i would greatly apreciate it =]...

i'm also gonna post a few pics i take every once in a while with the d3000 in here, if that's cool with yall.

          got 1 question.

what will this 52mm telephoto lens adapter thing do?
it screws on to the 18-55mm vr dx lens and i'm not sure what it does..
it's pretty cheap in price. does it make a difference and does it help any?

          http://cgi.ebay.com/52mm-TELEPHOTO-L...23695153247817

i seen that they also have the wide lens adapter..but couldn't you just zoom out more and just crop the top/bottom creating a wide looking effect?

Don't buy stuff like that link you just posted. If you want a telephoto lens, buy a telephoto lens. Gimmicky things like that Telephoto lens adaptor are completely worthless.

Nice pickup btw, and that's a hell of a price for everything you got

yea i know what you mean. just looked like junk to me too but i thought it was worth asking..

a friend offered me this lens
Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens

he said it's good for portraits and low light and all that. which i like doing..are they worth $100? i can probably get him to take a little less...they are not auto-focus though but that doesn't really bother me because i like focusing and doing all the work myself you know

                    Yeah, the D3s is tight.

The d3000 on the other hand is... a good starter cam.
