    Nikon D90 Film

A while ago I shot some short video clips with my D90 but never really did anything with them. I tried to edit some but the quality didn't look very good IMHO so I just tossed them to the side. Last night I decided to do some more research on this and got my answer. The HD video that the D90 produces (same goes for Canon 5D MarkII) is pretty compressed into an easily workable format, but only if you don't plan to edit it. What was required was to decompress the video in order to edit it and get the most out of it. My editing was done on a MBP with Final Cut Studio and I used Apple ProRes422 format running at the native 24fps. After the editing I exported the film and converted it to H.264 for on-line use. Here is a small film from two clips I put together last night...

Thats really cool man. I thought that the video portion for high end camera's was a dumb idea, but thats just because I didn't have the right artistic vision for it. I just thought you were supposed to use it as a normal camcorder. I never thought of it as a moving still frame camera. That video really makes me want to upgrade now.

Thanks! Yes, the feature was never designed to be used as a camcorder. With a quality tripod and a fluid head with a nice collection of lenses the possibilities are really great. It's a new technology so it will only get better from here. I hope Nikon will release a firmware update that would let you control the exposure a bit more...

Amtrak building in Philly. The cool part is that they can display just about anything on it. During the playoffs they had a Phillies logo or american flag for 4th of july. Pretty neat.

It will absolutely change the way you look at DSLR cameras with video.
I still have no need for it at all.

Thanks, I'll check out the site. I did a decent amount of videography and editing so I really enjoy the extra feature.
