looking for a nikon dslr camera! need opinions!

i have looked into the nikon d40 and the d3000! i know the d3000 is better because of the more focus points and all and it's 10mp compared to 6 on the d40. i know the d3000 is about 100-200 more than the d40 but i'm still not sure what do get!!...

    needs ideas/opinions...

    thanks

If you can afford the extra $100 on the front end then go for the D3000. If you're tight on money, get the D40.

You won't be sorry with either one.

Do you have any lenses? Watch out for the lack of auto focus in the d40 body. That would be inconvenient.

Same thing on the D3000 though

Essentially, the differences are the different flash sync speeds and the autofocus points. The megapixel difference isn't such a big deal.

D40 will most likely be impressive enough for you. Can't beat the price you can pick one up for either.

              someone offered me a d70 for $450

nikon d70s with 28mm-80mm nikor lens, 2 lens hoods, one gig memory card, battery, battery charger, travel adapter for charger (usa. aust. nz. europe. uk) and camera strap.
camera is in very very good condition has cover for screen so it wont get scratched. tons of options.
is it ALOT better than the d3000 and d40? if ya think it's a good deal i might try to get that!

No offense man but you'd get far quicker answers and more in depth responses by reading up at a website like http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/

Poke around there and search google for your questions. Odds are it's been answered before by professionals.

Here is just one example of a thread from dpreview comparing the D40/D70

                http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=23171124

Also, you need to figure out which 28-80mm you'd be getting with that D70. Is it the f/3.5-5.6 AF-D version or the AF f/3.3-5.6G version?

What about pics of the unit as well? I wouldn't just trust some guy saying it's "in very very good condition" Hell, I wouldn't even trust it by looking at photos of the gear. There is so much that you can't tell by simply looking at a camear or lens.

Honestly, I don't see any huge differences between them all. Being able to buy a camera brand new is a great thing because you know the condition it will have been in its entire lifetime. I'm not saying don't ever buy used, just be very careful when you do consider used gear.

I had the D70 at one time and it was a great camera but by now its a bit outdated. It will still perform fine but I suggest you look at the D80 model. Since the release of the D90 the prices of D80 have dropped a lot. Its a very capable camera and you wont have to worry about lens selection as it will focus will all AF lenses unlike the D40, D3000 or D5000.

Both my 30d and 20d are used and they are great. You have to be smart about buying used, but if you ask all the right questions, get all the right pictures from the seller, and possibly try it before you buy, you should have no suprises.

check your local craigslist. That how i bought a wide angle lens, small camera bag and a tripod head for dirt cheap. I met with the person, inspected the stuff and then paid. I also bought my D200 body used in great shape on eBay and had no problems. I paid a bit over $600 for the body with a low shutter count and I believe Ilovemycb7 got his D200 for about 500ish so look around and continue to check. Good deals are out there, just need to constantly check
