Your Thoughts: Micro Four Thirds Cameras

Your Thoughts: Micro Four Thirds Cameras

Olympus has released their E-P1 and I really like it. Panasonic is releasing their GF1 in September 09. This is the ideal setup for the enthusiast photographer like myself.

What do all you DSLR folks think?

These units are supposed to have comparable photo quality to the common consumer DSLR cameras. ie. Olympus E-P1 = Canon T1i in picture quality.

    let's hear your thoughts:

The price for this unit is around $900 and with a good lens, it should cost about the same as a starter DSLR.

Hmmm $900 is alot for a body with a starter lens.

However, I find this very interesting. Kind of a niche market I guess.

No... d40 with kit lens is about half of that new when it was going out a couple months ago.

Now you could even pick up a nicer canon or nikon used with a good lens for that much.

What is the benefit of this over a DSLR?

One DEFINITE benefit I see is the size. You could possible fit that in a large pocket if you paired it with a short lens. That's sure as hell not happening with a DSLR.

Yeah, girls would be like "Oh that's the cutest little camera!" instead of "Jeeze, that's a big camera are you compensating?"

Looks nice. I would love to have one of those as a carry around instead of luggin around my SLR. I can feel like I am a super spy too.

I guess... but hell most of us buy nicer cameras so that they are bigger. Every time I hold a regular camera now I can't stand it.

I guess it has a nice niche, I just don't know if it's a good "value."

James Bonda Camera indeed. These cameras look sweet with a nice lens on them. lol

I need to get a new camera before next January, and so far, the Panasonic Lumix is the winner. It doesn't look as sexy, but it's got an integrated flash, a better screen and still all the functionality.

                          We'll see.

                          here are some pix
