The car is down for the next few weeks.

I got a free F22A1 from some random dude. I'm rebuilding it at the moment.

the current engine leaks from the timing belt side and from around the oil pan gasket.

I'll be replacing every single seal on it, as well as installing new rings and bearings.

This car will no longer be worked on to go faster, but be kept as a reliable daily driver that can still get up and go some. I'm going down to a 272 regrind if I can sell my 282. if not, then I'll roll the JDM F22A cam.

The next step after this engine over haul will be suspension.

resurfaced/milled .004", new valve seals installed, cleaned, 3-angle valve job. Not bad for $120. I also might get a job at that shop come new years

Is that the head I sent you? Either way $120 for that work is really good deal.

The CB will remain SOHC for the rest of it's life. No more trying to get it to go faster. It will be a reliable DD that has some umph. The next steps of the CB after this engine rebuild will be a complete suspension upgrade.

The F22B will come back to life in the spring. It will be in an EG hatch, F2D, and turbo'd.

The engine is mostly torn down. Just gota take out the crank/mains/rods/pistons and I'm done with tear down.

The engine looks to be in very good shape, besides all the oil grime on the block.

That's how all the cylinders look. Cross-hatch marks still all there, and not much carbon build up on the pistons.

And just yesterday, I was drinking and I got to thinking...p39 pistons.

I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier.

But yea, the F22B pistons are going into this engine. Gona order OEM rings after Christmas, and getting ACL bearings/thrust washers as well. Gona start mic'ing everything in a little while.

Building an engine isn't really hard at all. I enjoy it, a lot.

The head on the other hand, was FUCKED up. The cam journals anyways.

The reason I got this engine for free was because the cam gear had broken off the camshaft. So they just replaced the engine instead of just the head. They needed to get rid of it, so I did them a favor.

I was contemplating on weather I should have bought a known, good condition head or taking my chances with the one that was on there.

                    I'm glad I bought a new head!

I don't understand how the cam gear could have broken off the cam gear. But it sure did some fricking damage.

Got the pistons/rods out today. The rod bearings looked nasty. Previous owner either starved the engine of oil, or didn't change the oil in correct increments.

The journals however, look excellent. So, it's only bearing surface damage.

The pistons all look in good condition

                                Who knows what it was.
There was plenty of oil in it, didn't look too old either.

                                Oil pump seems fine.
