1990 Honda Accord EX (Canada)
~225,000 kms
Sedan, Automatic
This is my baby. Haven't decided on a name yet (want to name her after Kelsey, my childhood friend who was murdered, or Holli, a girl whose heart I broke). Purchased from a friend in poor-body condition for $300 and restored to something to be proud of at a cost of less than $1000 (including the price of the car, registration, insurance etc)
I obtained her in February 09, and worked on her every weekend until August, when I could finally insure and drive her. She has been kept in very good condition, as close to stock as you can get without annoying the hell out of you. (minus a couple of neat addons)
All of the modifications/changes I know of are as follows:
Previous owner: Valve modification (not sure of details), ECU tuning (not sure of details), new headers and exhaust.
Myself: extensive body work, new paint job, 6 new speakers, sony h/u, iphone dock, neon license plate brake light.
Problems: hole in exhaust before cat = loud!, seeping leak in fuel line, fuel light doesnt work, cruise control doesnt work, A/C is empty, loose belt squeaks like crazy when below freezing
Todo: body kit, mags/low profiles, drop, foglights, fix various little problems, install not-for-car subs in trunk
and now here are lots and lots of pictures!
not my picture, but this is how the car looked when I got it.
this is my car just after i began sanding. inlay is a closeup of the old paint
Taking apart the car, exposing the rust you-know-where
More rust. The hood is near useless.
Extreme rust removal!
Fiber-glassing with aircraft-grade material and resin (no joke, friend is a mechanic at air canada)
After a week of fiber-glass, putty, and sanding, looks good as new!
Couldn't figure out how to fit 6x9s, so I made new holes
With the tiny amp installed (amp actually powers the minisubs under the covers.. the 6x9s are powered by the HU directly)
I'm going to paint this. Doesnt look like much but runs like a dream.
Priming outdoors!! Dont worry I did the paint and clear indoors (after I learned my lesson)
Just after painting and clear, begun assembling
My homemade iPhone dock.. built from scratch and works perfectly.
thats all for now.. more pictures soon. the car has been finished and driveable for 4 months now
[NOVEMBER UPDATE]
Since my last update, I've just re-done the entire exhaust.. went with 2.5" pipes but the order got fucked up.. I ended up with a single 1.5" tailpipe instead of twin, so now I'm in backpressure city. The AC still doesnt work, I'll get it fixed in spring. The cruise control works now, after having cleaned it all up. I'm having difficulty finding replacement door trim bar things. I found a spoiler for free, painted it and installed it myself. Some of the LEDs are burned. I replaced my 9006 bulbs with some more intense ones. My iphone was destroyed and so i DESTROYED the dock I made. When I got the new iphone, I built a completely new dock, that lets me rotate the phone and record my driving (iphone 4 has 720p video recorder!)
I recently replaced most front-end wheel-related items. Tie-rods, discs, hubs, upper tables, lower ball joints, etc. Now my alignment is off and my brand new set of wet-weather tires is useless.
I recently noticed that my tranny is very very slowly leaking fluid on the bottom, where the tranny meets the engine. I dont know much about this, but I feel as though if I tighten the bolts securing the tranny to the engine, it will be ok.
Also I found a picture of my car before I started working on it, hiding in a barn. I will upload it some time. Plus some new ones as of recent.
Until next time.
