fair enough, but understand that its creating a negative effect on the future of everything related to these cars. every aspect, of course ur smart enough to put the good parts places where they need to be but what makes u think that the idiot up the street wont buy the cheap fuel regulator and anchor bolt camber kit and kill himself and others? its bad for everything, and people will continue to think we are a bunch of idiots if the idiots can attain everything to make themselves look like enthusiasts, and not care if they destroy things because their cars cost so little to put together....

once again. another good point. one of the guys here rode in my car when i had some Tien Basic Dampners on. he said "OMG man. your car doesnt bounce. why is it yours is so low but doesnt bounce like mine?" i told him i had FULL coilovers on. not just some cheap ebay coilovers like he does. i cant wait to get that full coilover feel again....


but i do try to educate people around here about buying parts from stores around here. all they sell is ebay quality stuff. the only thing they dont sell thats ebay quality are tires, rims bigger than 20s, and HID kits that are like $300. but when it comes to stuff like coilovers, lowering springs, camber kits....all knock offs....at too high of a price.

ok if u were said company(mugen, spoon etc.) and ur demographic rejects ur products for cheaper lower quality products how much faith would u have in spending thousands on R&D just to have someone steal ur hard work and money just so ur parts can sit on shelves and u lose ur ass... it does not matter what part were talking about its the mentality of the people who build hondas.... u dont generally see these issues with people who build muscle cars. its the general lack of support for the people who are looking out for u. people selling replicas are out to make a quick buck(excluding companies like rota) and not concerned with how to make these cars more competitive and where the sport will be in 5 years....

And u miss the bigger point. On the companies' side, why create products for a demographic that either generally doesn't have the money or mentality to spend unreasonable amounts of money on cosmetic parts? You mention the domestic crowd- domestic owners for the most part either restore their cars or build them for some non-abstract purpose like drag or road racing. For either purpose high quality parts are a must.

What does the import crowd build cars for? Yes there are a lot of road racers & drag racers, and I think within that realm there is no lack of people who will spend the money for good parts. But for someone like Shadow1, or even you, people just build the cars to be a little more fun and represent their personalities. I don't see why we all have to buy Spoon + Mugen + Apexi parts to do so. Like I said, if it's a matter of life or death I understand, but there's no significant "R&D" that goes into a lip.

I think u make out the whole "image of the community" think to be a lot more important than it is. The average Joe or even domestic enthusiast sees no difference between something like Shadow1's car or RTR's car. The only ppl who care about the difference between Mugen and Megan are the tiny community of enthusiasts who will only buy Mugen.

And I agree that cheap knockoff parts for critical things like suspension etc shouldn't be made, but in all my time in this community I have only heard of maybe 4-5 instances of shitty suspensions actually causing serious accidents. But again, when it comes to stuff like that I agree that you have to spend the $$$. For frivolous cosmetic + bolt on parts I don't think it matters.

there is business lost there.. how do u figure that if only the spoon lip was available there wouldnt be more people willing to spend 500 on it? the demographic would have a different mentality should there not be people dangling similar looking products in front of the for a fraction of the cost... there may be less people willing to go the distance, but why is that a bad thing? less idiots doing burnouts at every stoplight giving us all a bad name. next point why should everyone be able to bolt a bunch of fake crap on their cars and look and act just like the guys who spent the time and money working hard to achieve a certain goal? i buy real parts. i also dont have a ton of money into my car.... sure if i had more money id have more parts but id rather buy things as i can and not support the negative side of the sport.

and yes, there is a bunch of r&d that goes into aero parts.... ever notice that the expensive parts fit better and dont look like crap, thats because they spent the money to make the parts compatible... not to mention a lot of companies do actual wind tunnel testing....

on to ur next point...

i agree that most general viewers dont know the difference between someone like rtrs car or someone with replica parts. this also causes a problem. rtr spent years putting together a nice safe car that does what he intends it to very well, however the guy with replica parts very well could injure people.... what makes u think a guy buying an ebay lip wont buy ebay suspension?

and lastly when u buy parts like lips from the companies on ebay, u give them the money and initiative to build and sell crappy suspension and other parts to sell to the idiot up the street.... theres no way to stop it unless people stop helping these companies.

so lets say skunk2 designs and sells a nice front lip that is wind tunnel tested for a cb... now lets abs dynamics simply for example makes a copy of it right away and nobosy buys the skunk2 lip anymore... if u were skunk2 would u then decide it would be a good idea to design a badass cb specific full damper? i doubt it.

I really don't think anyone who'd be willing to spend $500 on a lip would settle for a cheap replica. Look at all the people here with Greddy, Sigma, Xenon etc lips. They could have "settled" for a cheap Ebay lip but they didn't. A lot of people talk about getting crazy parts, but wind up buying cheap ones... those people would never have bought the crazy parts to begin with.

As far as the safety issue, that's a matter of being smart. I have no problem rocking an Ebay Type-R lip on my car. It has no effect on my safety. However, I would NEVER throw Ebay sleeves on old stock shocks. That is putting my life in danger needlessly. There are many people with Ebay cosmetic parts who would never get crap Ebay life safety parts. That's just a matter of safety. It's not the same thing.

And again there's no correlation between the parts with your Skunk2 example. (For one, the Skunk2 shocks for CBs are shit but that's another thread.) If there is no demand for a super aero lip, that would in no way affect the demand for a decent set of shocks or coilovers, and Skunk2 is close enough to the market that they could easily just talk to CB owners and realistically see whether there's a market there or not. Hell, people are def. buying their shocks now as is, and they are shit.

-fixed some of the CF wrap on the trunk


now im just waiting for the rear strut bar and the HID ballast to come in. haha!!! the rear strut bar should be here tomorrow. the HID kit monday or tuesday. pics up later.
