Also the a4 has a Butterfly valve which opens up at a set RPM to let more air into the intake manifold, sort of a PRE-VTEC type thing... although its not VTEC.. Im not exactly sure the difference in the a6 tho.. i used to know but once i figured that my CB7 (before it got totaled) was a f22a1, i used to learn about that since it was what i had.. The a1 and A4 are very similar just different Header.

F22A1: 1990-1993 DX/LX engine, 4-1 header, restrictive exhaust, and made about 125hp and 137 ft. lbs.
F22A4: 1990-1991 EX engine, 4-2-1 header, higher flowing exhaust, no secondaries on intake yet, made 130hp and 142 ft. lbs.
F22A6: 1992-1993 EX engine, 4-2-1 header, higher flowing exhaust, secondaries on intake, made 140hp and 142 ft. lbs.
IAB is not a "pre-vtec" thing. Honda's "pre-vtec" was their turbo cars. The last production turbo car being the 1987 Acura Legend 2.7 v6 Turbo. Turbo was dropped by Honda in 1987 in favor of the newer more promising "Vtec". Vtec making it's debuet in 1989 in the CRX SiR and the Integra (B16A).
