I mix the paint with mineral spirits in a separate container.

When mixed, it should be almost as thin as skim milk.

One 1/4 gallon can of rustoleum paint should be enough to do 8 coats on entire car.

Maybe you are talking about the smaller cans??

yeah. i ended up getting the smaller can. the quart size i think. and i was thinking about how you mixed it today. lmao. i was sitting there scratching my head about how to mix it up. lol.

4 quarts in a gallon, would make that a 1/4 gallon like he said!

you just didnt thin it out and probably put to much paint.

After the second coat or so, would the roller marks disappear? I did one coat and you could tell I used a roller when you get close...

The first coat always looks like hell, so no worries.
However, make sure you thin the paint enough and paint quickly to avoid roller marks on your next coats. Good luck!

Not to hijack. Just wanted your opinion to see if this is what hell looks like. lol.

btw this is regular automotive paint, single stage (meaning it has clear) and the ratio I use is 8 part paint, 4 part thinner, and 1 part hardener. It the way NAPA told me to mix it lol.

What kind of roller are you using? you should be using the 4" high density foam roller from HomeDepot!

No offense but you have way too many roller marks. You will NOT be able to get rid of those marks by wetsanding. You need to apply much lighter coats and thin the paint a lot more.

The way you are mixing it may be good for spraying but you can tell that it is no good for rolling.

Sorry, I don't know much about rolling automotive paint, only the oil-based Rustoleum.

You may wanna ask somebody else, I really don't know if it is even possible to get good results rolling that paint.

here are a couple of closer shots just to give an idea of what it should look like (this is BEFORE wetsanding and buffing)

The Accord is very dirty as I drive it a lot (I wiped a part of the hood to take this pic)

And this is my Civic, also rolled, no wetsanding was done

As you can see, there is orange peel, but no roller marks.

The orange peel can be reduced by LOTS of wetsanding and then possibly applying another light coat.

Light roller marks can be eliminated by wetsanding, but I am talking about very little marks that are hard to notice.

Heavy roller marks are impossible to eliminate without stripping the paint. If you are thinking about doing this, practice on something other than your car until you can roll without getting any roller marks or it will be a nightmare.

looks great. Can you wetsand/buff half and then take a pic of before and after?
