    good job.
just make sure the trim on your 300zx is stainless or at least aluminum.
if a maganet sticks to it........steel
    if it doesn't.........................aluminum

to tell if it is chrome, rub metal polish on it. if no black residue appears on the cloth, it is chrome.
it may also have a plastic coating. no black residue either. if that is the case, use a plastic polish. later.

You still got me thinking I might do this next year once its warmer.

So I guess it could also be done with polishing cones like these: http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.j...=17&search.y=6

and an electric drill along with metal/mag polish as already noted.

i don't have any. i didn't remove it to polish it, i just taped it off to protect the paint.

most trim pieces have a screw or three holding them on with a few plastic clips that break really easy. after you remove them, then you just carefully slide them apart. later.

do you have to use an electric drilll/buffer to do this?

or could you do it by hand?

                      pros/cons?

you don't have to use a drill/buffer, but if you use one, you will be glad you did. stainless is very dense. it takes a lot of speed to polish it. i tried it by hand and it improved a little, but the results where nothing compared to what the drill did. later.

yeah, i'm doing it right now.

hand buffing it is okay, but the difference between using your hand and using your drill is kinda like night and day.

well, on the most tarnished surface.

I am going to revive this very old but useful thread.
I have a question that is kinda related.
I noticed that you don't have the OEM grille anymore, but I was wondering if you have any techniques for polishing the plastic that is chrome plated? I am worried that it will just flake off. Any tips? I also have chrome around my tail lights and headlights that could use some love.

the chrome on the grill is chrome cladding. as you know, it's not as robust as the chrome plating found on metal. i'd use mother's chrome polish to clean it since it's on the mild side, but i wouldn't make a habbit out of using chrome polish on it.

for the headlights and taillights, you must first determine the finish, stainless steel, chome, ect. if it's chrome, you can treat it like the grill. if it's stainless, you can use the mag and aluminum polish. later.
