DIY: Paint your car: Stage 3 Paint

Now your almost done with the painting project. heres the tough part, painting. Feel relaxed when painting, dont be in a hurry.

    Supplies:
    Air compressor
    Air Chuck
    Wax and Grease Remover
    Tack Cloth
    Your Paint
    Reducer
    Clearcoat, buy a gallon
    Hardener for clear
    Spray Gun
    Face Mask
    Kero Heater

Now as the kero heater is running and keeping your place warm. Start cleaning all the parts. use a dry towel and pour some wax and grease remover on it to wet it. go all over the car, wet everything and make sure its clean.

Now use a tack cloth (yes i know its super sticky) and go over the parts again, just this time use a air chuck to get all dirt and dust out of body and onto the tack cloth.

Next step you might want to take a break and eat cus the next process your going to be by the car all the time until its finished.

Now when you come back get ready to mix paint. Paint gets mixed 1:1 Ratio. Use a big size up for this. pour half paint and half reducer.

Now pour into gun. Make sure you adjust your gun properly. Ask the salesperson your buying it off of to teach you. Try not to shoot so much air and try not to wet the car to much.

Start from the top and make your way down. spray 6 inches away and make sure the gun sprays a 6in area at a time. your could adjust the jet by that. its the top front knob.

start at the top, front the left always to the right, always keep air going thorugh the gun, so when you spray at the top, let go of the trigger half way and then pull back again as you go front right to left. now when you spray underneath of what you spray, make sure you spray 3 inches higher to that you dont have lines going through. ill try to get a pic.

go over the car 2 times like this, until the whole car is painted. make sure you dont stay at a spot for to long, you'll start to make paint run down.

allow car to dry for 20-30 mins. when you do your second coat, allow 10 mines to let the 1st coat dry a bit.

after the paint is dry. start mixing your clear. now i forget how clear gets mixed, so you'll have to read the label. if its 4:1 then you mix 4 miligrams and 1 milligram of hardener.

use full cup of hardener. if you get low in the gun, remix it again and keep going.

now clear gets put on the same as paint. you use 2-3 coats of it.

wait car to dry 2 hrs before going to touch it again. make sure to close all windows to keep the room hot. try to get it to close to 100 degrees. trust me thats not even hot. ive stepped into a paint booth running 170 degrees. now thats really hot. but its normal for paint to dry.

let car dry overnight. when car is fully dry, start putting your parts back on. try not to do any hwy driving for at least a week. remember, just cus the car is dry, doesnt mean clear is dry to. you have to wait at least 1 week for clear to dry underneath.

    and your done.

if you want, you could wet sand with 1000 grid and buff the whole car after a week or 2, to give your car that nice and shinny smooth look.
