I did mine today. Can of carb cleaner at WalMart was $.97

After doing it the idle was really low, didn't run real well. I drove the car for a couple of miles to warm up the engine and work out any remaining carb cleaner. When I got home it still idled really bad so I did the ECU reset and now everything is perfect. Idle is right at 700 RPM (automatic transmission), and it does truely does idle stopped in gear better than before. The screen on the the IACV had a lump of carbon about 1/8th" thick. In a month or so I will do the EGR port service. There's no way it has ever been done. I think even the PCV valve is original. It was all carboned up too.

just did this, idle is definately different but what is the right rpm at idle for our cars? after it's warmed up and everything, mine's a little bit under 1000rpms. i was thinking about just turning the idle up a little bit so that it's at about 1 but i dunno anyone got an answer?

Engine idle RPM's setting for automatic is the same as manual transmission. 700 RPM + or - 50. So 650 to 750 RPM's. The information is found on this sticker under the hood.

i did iacv a few min ago, i looked and i was like wtf shit looked clean to me lol. im picky if anything looks dirty i clean lol. but it looked clean no gunk just a little dust of carbon on it. i have had the car for almost 5 yrs i got the car from my grandmother. i sprayed it anyways with throttle body cleaner now my idle is about a little under 1k used to be a little over 1k then i also took my intake off and sprayed inside the throttle and the butterfly.i cleaned that up all nice and now its around between 900 to 950 the idle so im not sure why my shit was so clean? and everyone else wasnt i also have 240k on my car!!!!

haven't gotten around to cleaning the IACVF BUT...mine Idles @1500 - 2000 RPM on a cold Idle...then when it warms up...it drops to 1000/ 900 RPM

Im Pretty sure if I did clean the IACVF..it would help out!

It dissolves gunk readily (I use it regularily as a superglue remover) and evaporates quickly at room temperature. You can buy it for ~$5 at any hardware store or Wal-mart but since I didn't need to much of it, you can find a ~20oz bottle of it in Wal-mart's nail polish section for ~$1.50 listed as "professional strength nail polish remover - 100% Acetone."

                  * Consider just cleaning the holes and the filter in the IACV vs. taking it apart/off the car JUST to swab the insides. For me at least, the marginal value of

wow... i cleaned a used IACV I snagged from a junkyard but i the idle problem came back. I will try to clean it out as Acetone as you suggested... thanks

finally got around to yanking my IAC... man damn thing was jammed full of carbon crap. emptied a can a carb clean into in and wiped the build up off the intake mani. all I can say is wow what a diff. but man those hoses were a bitch and the bolt near the fuel rail was hard to get off but besides that it was a snap.

I just cleaned mine out today because my idle is pretty shitty. I'll have to try adjusting the screws on the throttle body.
