EXT: Making Intermittent Wipers Variable Speed

And yes only 70000 mile. It was my grandmothers car that most miles were put on it from my Mom driving my grandma around in it.

i just picked up a jdm CF2 combo switch with adj vairable spd wipers. i'll get this mod into my wagon .

Would the arm still have worked without filing it down, or does it have it to sit a certain distance from the steering wheel?

Nice WriteUp! I have all the parts off a CD5, I just hadn't had the time to mess with the swap, this has always been one of my only complaints with the CB's. Should save me some time with the swap when I have time to do it..

You don't need to file it down, just the angle will be wrong. It will sit closer to the wheel with out filing. If you have 92-93 I dont think you need to file it. I assume with the airbag, the controls sit back further like the newer ones with airbags.

If you have a quick release hub and aftermarket wheel, the change would be for the better since most of them put the wheel out more than factory. Slim hubs probably don't do it as bad, but my NRG put the levers just out of finger reach, so the added angle would put it back within reach.

Perhaps I should also change the headlight control lever on my 92 so both are within reach, then just file the wiper lever for my 91 since it's a factory wheel.

Also, I really don't think theres a huge difference in steering wheel location between the 90-91's and 92-93's, I'll check tomorrow and see how off they are.

Yo great diy but correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the cb9 wagon have variable speed wipers? If so it might have been a bit easier just swapping over the wagon shit. IDK, I'm just sayin.

the parts diagrams show the same part # for the control unit for all cb's. I traced back the empty pins on the control unit and did not find anything that would lead me to believe that the unit has the ability.

The diagrams show all wagons had airbags. Is that correct?


The wagons use the same light switch as 92-93 2/4 doors and the wiper switch will have rear wiper controls on it. I doubt it has variable on it, even if it did it wont work on 90-91 without modifications.

I've been searching this problem everywhere, the intermittent wiper speed in my car doesn't work. The normal and fast and fast speeds do in the other hand.
Any ideas on that could be the problem?

Check the intermittant wiper relay below the underhood fusebox. The relay is turned on by the icu, the grn/red should be grounded to energize the relay when switch is on int.

Also check the switch, the green wire should have 12v when switch is on int

in canada im not sure if this applies to us models.
91 -no airbag,92 93 have the airbag. not sure what ones have the passanger airbag style dash as well.
the wipers are the same as the cb7 they just have a rear wiper control on the wiper stick that operates similar to the varible speed control on the stick.

great job ...i notice that the 90dx wipers had a different plug on them ... i hope my wright up of 90dx steering wheel adding cruse switches to it turns out as good as yours
