I am in the middle of doing a 5-speed swap on my cb and went ahead and took off the intake manifold to give me alittle more room to work and I decided since it was out I went ahead and port matched the manifold but I also wanted to delete the IAB butterflies and was wondering what methods you guys have used to seal the ends of the IAB plate and how long it has lasted? Also did you seal all the holes on the inside?

Unless you are turbo'ed or plan on running 7000+rpms non-stop, you really DO NOT want to delete your IAB's. Anyone who says the felt an improvement from this is lying. You will lose low-end efficiency and will gain negligible (0.5-1.0hp) up top. Not worth it.My Member's Ride Thread

The IAB or secondary intake runner is a set of butterflies in the intake manifold of B18C and H22A engines. The P72 ECU controls the IAB, but other ECUs do not. If IAB control is lost by swapping ECUs then the engine will always run on both intake runners, typically losing 8 hp from 3,000 to 5,500 rpm.

The F22a6 in the EX Accords also has IAB. And the PT6 ECU comes in those to control it.My Member's Ride Thread

forget about putting in the plenum spacer and the IAB plate. what about just taking out the IAB plate. could you get any gains from that?Gary A.K.A. Carter

I would love to see 2 dyno charts with the only difference being the IAB's functional, and then IAB valves removed to clear up the fact that low-end will definitely suffer from reduced air velocity into the cylinder. My Member's Ride Thread

tuning is a requirement with this modification.

In none of those links does the person REMOVE IAB's, they simply stack what is essentially another "empty" IAB plate between the runners and original IAB plate. So they are keeping their IAB's functional and making the intake runners longer while potentially decreasing intake air temps with the insulating aspects of the spacer.
