battery light, car at 15V upon start up

once again my cb7 is crazy. my battery light is on. I went to start my car this morning. It started fine, but the battery light was on. Once it warmed up I drove up the street. I got over 1200rpm and the light turned off. Applied the brakes, light popped on. I applied the brakes and revved to 1500 the light turns off but returns after car returns to idle. So i got the car back home and checked the voltage and it was at 15V so I immediately turn it off and the battery was at 13.8 and dropping every min or so. I think the alternator is over charging. It's the 2nd one from the Auto Zone rebuilt ones with a lifetime warranty. My battery is a Duralast red top and its fine. Any suggestions.

Yeah return that alternator. The voltage regulator is bad. The battery light comes on when the ELD senses that there is either too much or not enough charge coming through the system. I had the same problem with my autozone alternator. I went and bought one from honda and my problems were solved.

I wouldn't go as far as buying it from honda, even though you can't beat the quality. Just swap it out back at autozone. Swap out the battery too, cause obviously that's still under warranty. Have the new and the old alternator bench tested on there "DuraTester." That will also help you decide if your problem is elsewhere.

used to work at auto zone, half the shit is bad out of the box anyways.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

I used to be a manager at autozone, its not even close to half.

Its more like 1/10. Alternator/starters/voltage regulators are tested before they get shipped to the store, so if they are defective when they get to the store, then there's a good chance that the parts got abused during shipping.

when i was working there it may have been 1/10 but its alot of things, sometimes it just takes a week or 2...especially their slave/master cylinders. but dont really care, im gone from there. at my location (2867) was bootsie hehe

That is mis-information. The voltage regulator does that, not the ELD. The battery light comes on when the voltage regulator does not see enough current being generated by the alt, or if the voltage regulator is unplugged the light automatically comes on.
