in my 91 lx with some mods i have the s button and i feel a huge differnce my car on highways the car shift at 6500-6800 when i have it on when it off it shifts at 5000-5300 my track time i got a 17@85mph with sport i got 16.8@90mph so it does do something, and also i smoked my friends 93 5spd accord and my friends 94 prelude auto with the button on and my friends 99 accord 5spd all these kills where with more about 600 more dollers of mods

at the track there was a 92 ex auto he got a 17.6 1/4 mile but over all there is a diffence and highend i noticed i have no acceleration with the s button off between 80-90 well not much just gradually with it on from 80-100 the car will take off with alot more acceleration

i notice a diffence with smode, all it does is shift a little later tho. but i definintely use it alot.

i've noticed most of the people, that say s-mode doesn't do anything are the ones who don't have it. heheh

Except me. I have it, but I have no evidence that it helps. To me, it feels faster, but that could be all psychological.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

I have a 92 auto ex, it doesnt have the s mode, but when I shift manually, I can wind it out an extra 200-400 rpms, I've gotten it to around 6700 rpm before rev limiter.... it sets the car up nice for the next gear. If I just floor it and go, it shifts a lot earlier, and when it goes to the next gear it definitely bogs more than if I shift myself...

shifting very bad see the s mode makes it so u dont have to shift, it automaticaly shifts later but at a safe rpms with out blowing up your tranny we have strong trannys but please ill tell u dont do unless u are racing someone dont do it on reg days or ill be seeing u on the wtb:92 ex tranny list lol

Um.... not to be an ass but manual shifting an auto tranny will ruin the tranny because its not designed to work like that. The only way to do that is to strengthen the auto tranny with stuff like the pts kit from level ten.

I have the sport button on my 91 Accord, and if you step on it pretty hard, not exactly flooring it, it shifts a lot later. Instead of mine shifting into 3rd at around 34-36 mph, it shifts into 3rd at around 45. I hear a lot of people saying that its better for stop and go, around town driving because your car will not shift from 1st to 2nd a million times.

My 2cent theory!! is that honda did away the S button beacause 1. people are confuse and don't know what it does(normal people who never push the car to the limit) 2. gas millage go way down when normal people have it on. Honda decide this feature have not catch on with the public and it an accord so better fuel millage is more important.

My theory that this sport button is wired to the auto trany TCU and enable an more agressive trany shifting and kickdown gear and possible might link to the ecu and run a more agressive timing and fuel table not not sure on that) For normal part thottle driver (average joe) very liltle performance notice beside it hold gear a bit longer. example it stay in 2nd or 3rd a bit longer and upshift a bit harsher so people got scare and say the shift is not smooth and their tranny is too jumpy as kicking down gear when just giving a lil gas. so it can scare alot of people thinking their tranny is having problem.

Now for accord driver who enjoy their car, most people drive and race their accord without the S button on will get to know the limit of their car. even at WOT the trany will shift on(F22Ax) around 5200rpm and upshift and it take 80% to 100% throttle to kick down a gear or 2 and it take a bit a while. so when racing 1st-30mph, 2nd-57mph, 3rd-84mph 4th=100+mph @5200rpm I did notice rare but sometime 1st-2nd shift is around 5500rpm but 2nd-3rd is alway 5200rpm.

Now with the S button on, I can kick down a gear or 2 with about 35-40% throttle and it really harsh but fast and redline at 6000rpm in each shift. So when racing 1st-36mph, 2nd -72, 3rd- 96mph give or take +-2 mph. using Gtech. So from a stop I can brake-gas to 2200rpm and redline at 6000rpm each auto tranny upshiftt. I can kick down faster from a rolling start around 25mph the tranny will kick down to 1st not 2nd with the sport button on ( of course it WOT but without the S button on it will kick down to 2nd only) and it almost an instant kick down not a hunt for rev and gear.

Bottom line is if you like driving hard you love S button of course it eat up more gas but waisting gas is the last thing when your racing someone or looking for power. for people who do not have the S button on their 92 up accord it a good feature but honda F*** it up and should have keep it. test drive a friend who has it and drive hard and you will notice the diff. Off course this is mods friendly so any power in the top end will be even more notice. with G tech I have notice 1.4mph and .2sec 1/4 miles my bone stock F22a4 with a short ram 17.1@84mph, with sport button on and 4-5 time down the track it 16.7@91.4mph. and with my JDM F22A I/H/E Safc II (sport button on) I ran 16.2@95mph and still in 3rd gear. those are the good old day..Now it H22A turbo power...

i have sport mode with my f22a6 tranny. i did the h22a swap and i drive daily with it on. for me it works out like a 5 spd when i get on it. i can take it up to 6800 rpms before it shifts and vtec kicks in real good when i have it in sport mode.

There's alot of confusion here over the "S" mode...
The correct information is located in this thread though, but
in a couple of different places.

                              S mode does several things:

                              1. Delays upshifts under part throttle situations (revs higher)
                              2. Requires less throttle input to evoke a downshift.

                              Some Notes:
S mode affects only part throttle operation.
S mode does not alter the air/fuel ratio.

S mode makes you quicker because of the increased rpms during acceleration.

The question that was never answered correctly in this thread...
Why did Honda cancel the S mode in 92/93 Accords?
Because the software now makes the decision what mode is most
efficient. The 92/93 don't have the button, but the ECU/TCU modules include code that provides for delayed upshifts or more sensitive downshifts. This feature is on every 92-06 Accord Automatic. And many other cars too.
The "S" advantage is *you* decide when to engage sport mode, Not the ECU/TCU.

                              Hope this helps.

So what consequences might be wrought when combining a 1990 car (with sport button) with a 92-93 ecu?

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
