    Knocking or Tapping or What?

    http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v3...t=DSCN0339.flv
Gimme a list of things to check, people. Do your magic, cb7tuner.

    Valve stuck open or what?

Backstory: I didnt even do the all too common 3-2 shift at 85mph. I was driving on the service road doing 45ish getting ready to get on the on ramp to the highway, so I clutch in, slow down to 40ish and put it in second pretty gently and as soon as I let the clutch back out.. POP tap tap tap tap (or whatever that noise in the video is, same thing I heard that night) die.

And no, it doesnt idle. It makes that horrible sound and just dies.

I know it sounds like Im underexaggerating what happened to save face, but I swear on all that is swearable upon.. those is the facts.

I vote on bent valves...check your timing belt. Have you ever replaced the hydraulic tensioner?

I can tell you just by the way it sounds cranking that at least one cylinder has no compression.

Could be bent valves, a burned valve, etc. With the rapidity of the sound, and the fact that I couldn't hear it while cranking, I don't think it is in the bottom end.

Check the compression to see what cylinder(s) is dead, pull the valve cover to see if anything on that end seems amiss, etc.

that does sound like a bent valve.

                      I would know.

Bent valves or burnt exhaust valves on cyl # 3 (if you're left-to-right is looking at engine). Leakdown test listening through an opened TB and exhaust tip will tell you which it is (intake or exhaust). However, you could skip all that and just get started by removing the cylinder head and recondition it.

Im thinking it would be easier to fix myself by just replacing the entire head and having a nice big paperweight for my desk
