    Alternator/Battery Problem

[Noticed] Yesterday night while i was bringing my little brother over to play on the 360, i noticed that both speedos' where either:

    1. falling to 0, and staying there for 10-15 seconds, then working normally.
    2. jumping up and down erratically for short short periods of time.
    3. Check battery light is on.

The D4 light had been flashing for months on end now, cause the CB has been sluggish, and will not shift by itself. So after the car gets up to speed i have to down shift, or else the car will redline. So since i had the D4 light flashing i just figured that the battery light/Check engine would go away; it did not. While on my way to take my little brother home, the car's headlights dimmed, and the car started to sputter, and died. i had to push it back to a parking lot close to home and take my girlfriends car to take my brother home, when i passed the car again i stopped and turned the key and it started normally.

My question is: do you guys think this is a alternator problem or what?

yep alternator fo sho!...u pretty much answered ur own question but wasn't sure i guess..hahaha i do that too...but YESSS alternator problem fo sho...get a new one and follow Nail05's DIY thread...very handy.

i know fo sho it's the alternator....EXACT symptoms! Only difference is mine is a 5spd.
*NOTE* u might have to switch out for a new battery as well...but then what i did was just jumpstart it to regain energy...easy ...simple as that.

your are right it was the alternator, i replaced it myself (it was a bitch), but now i have a loud squealing sound coming from the belt(s). is it too tight, or too loose? Perhaps i should just spray it down with squealstop?

try tightening it up. shouldnt be to hard to swap out alternators, just take out the powersteering pump and it is right there.

quealing would be too tight I think. Either loosen it a bit, or take it to a shop for some advice - they'll likely do it for free, if you're nice.

Squealing is almost always too loose. it comes from the belt not getting enough friction to turn a pulley somwhere. You want about 1/4 inch of play in the longest stretch of belt between pulleys, usually.

Just wonderful now i have a powersteering problem, prolly due to me removing the powersteering pump.

                1. steering rough on only certain parts of the steering wheel's circumfrence; mainly at 12 o' clock.
                2. i get a "deep moaning" sound when i turn into corners.

I just did this on my car not 2 days ago. Did you remove the power steering pump or just disconncet the bolts that hold it on and move it off to the side? If you just moved it then you probably have the belt tension adjusted wrong, or at least that's my guess I'm not 100% sure. Anyway I adjusted the alternator so I was only able to deflect the belt about .25" and the power steering pump belt about .5" and it works fine for me.
