Getting the DRL to work?

It's a safety feature and the law in Canada. By having your lights on you make yourself more visible to other motorist. It actually does work.
It's not you lowbeams. It's a different lower output light. At night it won't illuminate the road at all you'll need to use your headlights. Plus the only thing that turns on with the DRL's is the bulbs in the headlamps themselves, no parking lights, no instumentation. Just the headlamps.
