My brakes die today

Ok im setting at a light with my foot on the brake so i push the brake down as hard as i can and the pedal goes all the way to the floor. So already i know my brake went out so i had to drive how really slow useing my tranny to slow me down. My back brakes are real bad so using the hand brake wasn't helping that much. When i get home i open brake master cylinder and i still has fluid in it. So I start pumping the brakes and i notice the fluid was leaking out but i don't know where from. Its raining and the ground is wet so if any leaked out i cant tell. Do any body think that a brake line broke or is it the mastercylinder?

Yes, I am 90% sure it's the mc.

master cylinder internal seal worn out. So yeah replace the master cylinder itself ASAP!

So you do think that a line could of just broke because i could pump the brakes and the fluid leaves the Master Cylinder it has to go some where right but where?

it might be that cylinders on the drums are bad because the drums are making a grinding noise when ever i press the brakes they need to be changed they been this way for a while do you think this could be the problelm.

around 220,000 miles on the car and i thought it would be the shoes i was going to change them but looking at the manual its' alot of work and it looks hard. A shop said the it would be 250 just for labor so i was going to wait til i got some money to do the disc brake swap. So if i pump the brakes and see no fluid leak on the ground its must likey to be the MC.

I like "My brakes die today" like its a threat. , I'm going to go look at my car and say, "you will die tomorrow!"

But anyway, when its happened to me in my other CB, it was the BMC that needed to be replaced.

I ment to put "My brakes died today" just rush my fingers so i didn't spell it out right but now you mentioned it it does sound funny like a threat.

If you're leaking externally, I'd guess it's your rear wheel cylinder(s) leaking. You should see a puddle of brake fluid under one or both of your wheels. If you notice no external leak, but pedal goes to floor, more than likely your brake master cylinder.

I always thought that when your MC goes out when you press the brake it holds and slowly goes to the floor and if you release it and press it again it'll hold and slowly go down again.

I picked up a new MC today and will be puting it on tommorow hopefully in it don't rain. Wish me luck

I think its kinda the opposite of when your mc goes out....Instead of the pedal goin to the floor its really hard to press down.

To the OP check all the brake lines....I had the exact same thing happen to me a few weeks ago....I thought it was the mbc also....Bought a new one changed it out and all that did was point me to the real problem...Which was a completely corroded away rear brake line.

Changed MC today and thats not the problem its the cylinder in the drum brakes. I took off the drums and fluid came pooring out. But I don't know how to change it or cant tell what is defected on it. HELP please.

You just remove that part and slap the new one in. I removed mine without messing the rest of the rear drum brake system. I believe it internal seals are also messed up that's why it's leaking.
