    Intermittent Car Starting Problem ??!

My car has an odd intermittent starting problem. The car sometimes starts and sometimes it doesn't. On the times it doesn't start, I have heard these few symptoms:
-It has that starting noise, but it can't seem to start up fully.
-It would start and catch, but then bog and die instantly.

Could it be a fuel problem? Or is the starter just old?
    Car has 86,000.

*Wire, Plugs, Battery are all new.
The odd thing, is why would it start sometimes and sometimes it can't?

    Appreciate the help.
    Thanks.

    Update:
I pulled out the main relay and tried starting and the exact problem I am having. I suppose it's the main relay.

It would click (crank?) but not start. It has that rapid tick tick tick like its trying to start, and just before it would start up it can't.

I can't seem to pin point. But it would start fine, the initial start. But when I go to places, stop the car and then start again, sometimes the car starts up fine, sometimes it doesn't. After repeated turning of key, it would start. But sometimes I rather not take the risk so I haven't driven it.

could be main relay but usually wont start up at all... just crank. that leads me to believe that the electrical portion of your ignition switch is going bad.

its a fairly cheap part. easy fix too!

Not really sure about that part of the question. So when you stop the car does it click or not turn over? The click and cranking statement got me confused since both have separate problems. If you can start it and you cant start it up again when it warms up then its your MR. It's always better to pull the MR out and resolder the joints anyway it is a 15 or so year old car.

I already took my MR out. It wasn't that bad actually, though I did sweat up.

But, my car would start. I would drive it somewhere, and when I wanted to go back home it wouldn't start. This has happened a few times recently. I suppose the MR is on its way out.

When I took the MR out, it wouldn't start and it sounded and had exactly the same problem I am trying to describe.
