    ECU Datalogging

    Hey,

Sorry if this question has been answered before, i tried using the search button to no avail.

    I have a 91 Accord EX. Stock. I have a f22a4 motor and i was wondering a few things.'

    1) Exactly what type of ECU does that have, model number and all
    2) my goal is to be able to data log the ECU, i'm not even intrested in chipping it at this point...I'm looking at a very cost effective solution. Less than $100 please.
    3) I was looking at some software that looks like a dyno, showing rpm and stuff. What kind of software, preferably free, can i get to acomplish this.
    4) I'm trying to build a home dyno thing, not a ROM editing thing, however, as far as rom editing goes...where can i find timing values for my 91 EX? If there is no table, how do i conclude what the correct values are?
    5) In ECU chipping will i sill be able to pass "inspection"?
    6) About how much gain in HP can i expect if i make light moddifications?
    7) Will chipping my ECU make my car lose "life"?
    8) How does ROM burning work? Is it hardware that i have to purchase?

I'm sorry that i have so many questions. In all the reading i've done it still doesn't make too much since, i've read the intro to chipping stuff and i'm just trying to datalog. I'm getting ready to reach 90k so i would like to see what the shops "tuning" does.

My main question is how to datalog information to my computer.

    Any information would be fantastic.
    Thanks

    1) PT3-A01 or A71, probably.
    2) The solutions here are only two: Chip the ECU with the appropriate instructions to make the data output stream a PC friendly baud rate; Or you can by a standalone ECU/Piggyback system (NOT worth it).
    3) Check http://www.pgmfi.net
    4) See #3
    5) If you do it right, yes...
    6) Not much if you don't have any engine mods... Maybe a couple of HP...
    7) Not really, as long as you continue to perform maintenance.
    8) Well, yes... You would have to install a Low (or Zero) Insertion Force socket (LIF or ZIF) in place of the original ROM chip on the ECU circuit board. Then you must program (or BURN) a replacement chip to the specs you want. I must warn you that there is not much research to work with on the 4G Accord ECU's... So if you do this, it will be by the seat of your pants... Many people will recommend just acquiring a P06 Civic ECU, as there is a great deal of info that has already been gleaned from it.
