Cheapest Place to buy a starter?

My starter seems to be getting weaker, need to change it sooner or later.

It's an easy job, done it on my other car. Anyways what major auto store offers the best price?

Autozone told be 200 something!!!! probably 150 after core, still a major ripoff!

Pepboys told me 130 and 80 after core.

rebuilding it costs 80 as well.

so I need your experiences, NAPA? Murrays? Lee? checkers? etc, etc.

One persone here said they bought a new one for 50, thats would be super sweet.

Also autozone offered 2 styles, I have a 93 manual coupe, so what type would fit mine?

just looked on ebay, 90% are used, so I'd rather get it in person at a store.

if your car is manual just push it down a hill and pop the clutch while its in gear, starts right up, and its cheap but ya just do what ralphie said sorry for my sarcasm as well.

There is no reason to ever buy a new starter.... they will never be the same quality!

take it to an alternator/starter shop, and have it re wound, and rebuilt. they do the highest quality work for usually verry reasonable prices...

like you said....autozone...and checkers(Schucks, or Kregans) have shitty parts for 150-200 bucks... get it rebuilt at a local hometown shop for 80...

you answered your own question in your first post!

Hands down, having a starter rebuilt, or custom make, is not only cheaper, but you get a longer lasting, and usually labor guaranteed product!

                Hope this helps.

Are you SURE it's the starter? Does the starter just turn slower then it used to?
It could be that you just need a battery. The grounds on your car may also need to be replaced.

maybe, the battery was bought last september by the kid, I have the reciept, so its true.

but it is an autozone duralast. I wont change it until the beginning of winter when i'll really need the CCA.

grounds may be, but your talking about all the grounds, or the battery ground?

How would i know which one(s) to replace.

The starter does turn a little slower and I think its sounding sickly, so it needs to be replaced sooner or later anyways. I have 134k miles so I have no idea if this was ever changed.

I also have the common issue of taking a few cranks to start when its real cold, like 3 to 4 cranks which taxes the starter, so a weak one won't make it another long and cold winter.
