    overheating problem...

well my sisters car has developed.. a new problem lol...
the car likes to over heat.. heres the breakdown
    fans work
    always has coolant
temperature drops if u rev to 2k or so and hold it
when moving it never happens only when stopped
raises and drops quickly between being stopped and moving as in.. when ur stopped its 3/4 way up.. but when u start going within a few seconds it will begin to drop back down to normal temperature

    what could it be???

    my guesses..

    1.thermostat
    2.water pump taking a shitter

what do you guys think? im thinking about flushing the coolant system today or 2morrow..

    thanks..
    C-los

first thing that poped into my head was, the water pump, it could be the thermo, but one thing is, do you have any oil in the coolent?????

well, if the temp drops when you the rpms increase, then its more than likely the water pump.

Drain and flush it first, then change the thermostat. Those are cheap. The water pump will be $300ish, because you have to tear apart the front end of the engine. If it comes to that, the timing belt is an extra 30 bucks, and I'm sure you know the consequences if that belt breaks, so you might as well do that too if it comes to that. Sorry about the problems, dude.

is it really overheating? i mean, when it says it does, do you check under the hood? cuz it could be temp sending unit buggin out on you, but you say the fan works.... odd, prolly is the thermostat, but just an idea about the sensor....

Did you check to make sure you don't just have a very persistent bubble in your coolant? Did you bleed the system when you filled it up (if you changed a radiator, or were really low on coolant at one point for some reason or another)?
