Car randomly cut's out while driving.

Ok, here's my dilemma. My car's a retard. It will start up just fine, and I'll be driving down the road, and all of the sudden, the car will just die, or drop to 400 rpm and misfire REALLY bad (sounds like a semi with the engine brake on, just not as loud), and throw a check engine light. While the check engine light is on, it will absolutely refuse to start. Once the light goes away (randomly) it will fire up again, just fine. It does this quite a bit, and it's completely random. I pulled the code and it was throwing 14 and 15. 15 is Ignition Signal Output. Also, alternator is fine, it's getting fuel, battery is charged, all that good stuff.

Which do you guys think it would be? The igniter, or the coil? Or something else? It's really starting to tick me off...

I've see this problem before, and its most likely the coil.

Maybe ECU in limp mode??? do you have a swap?

Do you smell fuel, does the car run rich?

Well, the car has always run rich, but not overly so. No swap, just an F22A1 with H23 IM, CAI, Catback. I would think if it is in limp mode it would still run? Who knows. Anyways...I'm on vacation for 10 days, so I'll worry about it when I get back. Thanks for the tips guys!

this is what I would do.....replace the entire Dist ...and coil..get new ones!


thats what I would do......and Id look at it in a good light..at least you have new parts on it!

instead of putting in a new ignitor or coil...Id just replace BOTH...to cancel out the headache of BOTH!

Well...it's not the coil. I borrowed one from my neighbors accord, and got the same crap...

Autozone can test the igniter. Just make sure they test it like 5 times to heat it up.

I'm leaning towards your ignition coil/circuits or igniter. Your buddy's coil might be bad too. I had the exact same symptoms on my nissan sentra. It would bog,hesistate,stall at lights,piss me off,etc. You can eliminate the iginition coil by checking the resistance in the primary and secondary circuits, and in the primary and secondary coil terminals. begining of chapter 5 on the haynes manual tells you what the resistance should be.

Well, I borrowed an ignitor from a friend and the problem went away! w00t! Just gotta run to the pick-a-part and get my own (would buy new from Honda, but I have no job at the moment... ). Thanks for your help guys!
