    o2 heater code->ecu in safemode?

    I just got an emission test and failed miserably in all categories. Now, I had a cel which was a o2 heater code, which is from my wideband o2 sensor. Now, would this code make the car run rich, or in safe mode of some sort causing me to fail so bad?

    O2 heater is to heat up (duh!) the sensor to get it to operating temp faster...it would have no effect on O2 operations when warmed up.

        do you have a low rev limit? that will tell you if you are in limp mode. I dont believe the 02 heaters is a critical code though. it will certainly make you fail inspection, but shouldn't put the car in limp mode.

        someone correct me if im mistaking

          revs to redline no problem, engine seems to be fine too. Well I changed it back to the stock o2 sensor and the code went away. its an emissions test...they dont check for codes,roadworthyness,etc.

            ok...in the states, any CEL = automatic failure.

                this is just Ontarios 'drive clean' program for emissions...really just a money grab.

                  It will only have an effect if you're running in closed loop and if you're running your wideband as narrowband.

                    I think I was ...grey wire from plx was goin to the o2 sensor wire.

                      Oh god.

                      You might as well be running your stock o2 sensor with the heater circuit cut. You can either complete the circuit with a relay or disable it with w/e program you use.

                        You can also put a 1/4W 1k resistor across the black wires on your O2 sensor plug. That will fool the ECU into thinking that the heater is operational. Or, like was said above, disable the O2 heater with your tuning program (that's what I've done). On a PLX wideband, the white wire is the linear output (wideband) and the grey is the narrowband. Therefore, the grey wire goes to the O2 input on the ECU (white wire at pin D14) and the white wire (the way I installed it) goes to the ELD input (green/red wire at D10, cut the wire and connect the wideband). Works GREAT for me! I have the car running in closed loop and it varies between 14.0 and 15.4 at cruising speed and idle.

                          it was the wideband o2 that caused me to fail. not sure why I was running it to the ecu as simulated narrowband, maybe my wiring wasnt too good or something, or the simulated signal was off

                            Yeah, you NEED to have a good connection on these things. I soldered all of my connections and I haven't had any issues yet.
