    shaking like crazy at 60 mph

    well, i recently bought my 93 anv ed accord and havent had any problems with it...

    today i took it on the freeway and when i went above 60 mph the steering wheel and gas pedal started vibrating/shaking pretty hard...sadly enough, it made me scared to go any faster than 65

    could the reason for this happening be that i need new tires?
    i already know that i need some new ones...each one of the tires is different

    most likely bad tires, out-of-round....i'd get an alignment done as well

    have Sears or a place similar check all tires (balance them) & rotate if necessary, then have them do alignment.

      You may had one of those little lead weights come off as you were driving; they will make a tire bounce badly on the road if the tire's not balanced.

        on my other car i did rotate the tires and i still get the vibration over 65

            From most likely to least likely:

            1. tires out of balance
            2. car alignment off
            3. blown struts/weak or broken springs
            4. something more serious

              Actually, on a 240SX I worked on, his tires were well balanced but he had a horrible toe-in. You combine that with his old struts, the tires were bouncing up and down controllably on the road. Alignment job fixed the bounce, before we even fixed the struts.

                I used to do tires for a living...

                My suggestion would be get all the wheels and tires balanced... and be sure to ask the tire installer to make a note if any one wheel is way out of balance... it might mean that that wheel was bent and repaired poorly or there is an actual defect or internal problem with the tire...in that case further investigation and possibly replacement might solve the problem entirely...

                The balancing is pretty cheap and a good place to start.... but it could be as simple as replacing 1 wheel or a tire also...

                After that though if the problem persists I would have an alignment tech look at the suspension parts first and if eberything is in good working order and not damaged... then get an alignment... if something is way out of spec that would be the culprit right there... a good alignment tech can also tell you if you have any frame damage during the job...


                EDIT: I didn't see the part about you having worn and mismatched tires in the first post.... I think that is probbaly the culprit right there...

                    guys my plymuth viabrates when it goes over 65mph. so i took it to the shop and balanced the tires,,, and i ask the guy if the aligment would fix the vibration and he said noooooo.
                    he said that "in order for him to fix it,,, he had to check the car for himself"
                    after the balancing of the tires the car now viabrates over 70mph.
                    so there only a difference of 5.

                    so aligment would not do any good for vibration of the car on high speed driving.

                      Definitely could be tires.... I recently had a bad shake at 65+. It felt like it was in the front end, then I got a hole in the sidewall of one of my rear tires. Replaced both rear tires, and the shake went away! Turns out the rears were out of balance.

                      (BTW, F'ing Winston Tire can eat a dick. I thought they did a shitty job to begin with, since I got an alignment when I bought the last set, and it still pulled a tad to the right)

                        the thing is that my steering wheel viabrates like hell man. i mean i get scared when i go over 70mph with my plymuth. wheni go 60mph i can feel a thing. so i don't think that would come from the rear tires.

                          check ur lugnuts, i bet one of them are loose or something causing that.

                          usually it can be:

                          tire balance
                          wheel nuts
                          not round tires
                          etc.
                          What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

                          You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

                            Wait, I thought we were talking about an accord here? In my accord, the off balance rear tires translated into a shake that was felt in the steering wheel. On your plymouth (what year/model?), I'm not sure what it could be. I have an old 72 plymouth, and a shake like that would probably be something in the front.

                            yeah, checking lugs is probably a good idea...
