Engine overheats at idle....Flashing battery light

    Ok I have two problems...

When I'm sitting at like a light or whatever the temp in my engine rises, or so says the temp gauge in the car. But when I open up the hood I dont see any steam or hear any boiling type noises, which is what I saw and heard the last time which was because of a faulty hose. However when I'm driving the temperature drops and is normal. It does occasionally spike but always drops back to normal. Whats the problem? The thermostat is brand new almost, could it be the radiator or maybe another hose is leaking coolant?

Second is that after I did a new alternator replacement the light flashes off and on sometimes. I tighten every nut and bolt all over again but it still happens. Suggestions?

check if your fans are coming on, which i doubt that they are, first check the fuses under the hood, and make sure they are plugged in

for the alternator make sure that the plugs on it are pushed in all the way, also how is your battery

The fans did come on I believe, I'll check next time.

Battery is brand new basically, only about 8 months old. And when I put the alternator on which was thurs I put the battery on a charger for about 36 hours incase it had been drained by the car.

so all the grounds and connectors are secured tightly and no corrosion on them, make sure the battery terminals are not loose

as for the fans, double check them just in case

Fans working, and the problem seems to have corrected itself. The coolant was put in yesterday so I guess it needed some time to circulate throughout the whole engine, today no spikes or anything. Battery still flashing, no corrosion detected but I used the brush thingy to make em shine clean anyways. I dunno, maybe I'll reinstall it over again and see what happens. But since I'm planing to swap an engine in between now and August I'll probably wait till then and put it on the new engine.

So new coolant in did you bleed the system? Check your alternator is your battery is good. Its either a connection issue or the alternator is running on its last legs.
