    Smog check problems

I have a stock 91 Accord coupe with F22A4 motor and 290K miles. I recently took it in for a smog check and failed the 15mph test in all three emissions categories; HC, CO, and NO.

Here are my results: (maximum allowed/average/measured)
    15MPH - HC 118/31/161, CO 0.75/0.10/0.94, NO 799/2371939
    25MPH - HC 93/20/57, CO 0.63/0.09/0.13, NO 738/199/624

Also, I failed the ignition timing at 20 Before Top Dead Center. But I have fixed this and it is now set to 16 BTDC.

I took my car to a mechanic and he said that it was unusual to fail all three categoreies (HC, CO, NO) and that the smog tech probably didn't warm up the cat enough.

Can any smog techies around here confirm this?

How long did you drive the car before you drove it to the test site? It's usually a good idea to run the car for a hot one to warm up the cat good enough so it could do it's job.

Unfortunately I wasn't around when the smog tech checked the smog so I don't know if he warmed up the cat enough. But has anyone heard of failing all three categories?

Warming up the cat is essential to emissions testing. I would try cleaning out your EGR ports that will help lower the nox. HC maybe need to check o2 sensor or cat. But make sure your stuff is warmed up before testing most important thing.
