    Grinding sound from Tranny area!

I just bought a 1990 EX auto! yes, within 6 months..this is my 4th one! LOL..anyhoo...this is my first AUTO and Im hearing a grinding/clicking noise coming from the tranny area....it starts around 30 mph..and the faster I go..the louder it gets....the grinding sound kinda sounds like an exhaust leak..BUt I ruled that out...it sounds like a hole in the exhaust..but thats not what it is.....this weird sound..is coming from the tranny....what could be wrong????

the mileage is 153K bought it for $1000....oh yeah...the CEL is on...BUT theres no Jumper to see what code it is !

Mine does the same thing, but only in 4th gear at around 37-40 mph. In terms of the jumper, take off the kick panel on the passenger side, and look up under the dash with a flashlight. If no code has ever been jumped, the jumper will be taped to one of the bundles of wires.

I have already done that..I know where the jumper is suppose to be....its not there....just like my OLD 90 EX 5spd...NO JUMPER for some UNKNOWN reason...and this 90 EX AUTO....same shit...NO JUMPER

Damn man. That's what I hate about those 1990s. lets see, you got 4 cv joints. Could it be one of your inner c.v.joints? u get under the car and look for ripped boots? I know bad ball joints and ATF can also cause that grinding like sound. Can you feel that shit thru the steering wheel, or thru the shift lever? does it get worse when the trans shifts? check your trans mount man.

YOOO...I figured out what it was......its the LEFT outer wheel bearing making that noise, I was driving...and I did a little experiment...I started to swerve on purpose...and as I went right....the grinding/clicking/buzzing noise stayed constant...then when I went left....it got quiet!.....I inspected my CV joints...and NO..no ripped boots...I inspected the tranny mount...thats..A-OK... so thats the culprit...the LEFT outer wheel bearing! ...Oh what fun! Imma just take it to a shop and have them deal with the headache of changing it....shit...Imma do this...Imma have them change BOTH sides...just because..so I can have a piece of mind..and knowing that I have NEW bearings on both sides!

at least its not my tranny!....Im relieved!!!
