I use Royal Purple A LOT. If i'm not using the RP i'm using the Mobil 1. Only reason why I use RP and change oil and everything every 3k miles is because I get a 15% discount at Napa. But the stuff does work, and you will notice a difference if you use everything. That Purple Ice stuff works great!

A couple notes.
First to Deev.
1) I can tell you for a fact that Redline Fuel system cleaner works.
After running a couple bottles through my F22, with over 150K on it, I could see the aluminum very clearly on the tops of the pistons.
I used the watter wetter once, but it is hard to tell if it made a difference, since Hondas run so cool anyway.
2) The only way to measure true HP gains is on a dyno. Typically, synthetics do free up a little bit of power.
on our cars it might be 1 or 2.
3) It is common in aviation to have an oil sample and the filter sent off to an oil analysis lab after each oil change.
It is about $50 to do, but compared to landing off field or having a $20,000+ engine fail prematurely it is worth it.
This is the only true way to measure the durability and effectiveness of your oil.
In a test that was started but never finished (they didn't compare all the brands they wanted to, it was shown that Mobil 1 utperformed Amsoil by a significant margin. After only 6,000 miles Amsoil was starting to show signs of breakdown. Mobil could have gone almost 20,000 before it would have needed changed.
Also, if you change every 3,000 miles, and you use synthetic, you are mostly just wasting money.
The whole original purpose of synthetic, was less viscosity break down over time, I.E, it lasts longer.
Unless you have a fully built, highly tuned race motor, you aren't putting enough stress on your conventional oil to cause it to last less than 3K miles.
Boosted, and highly highly built and revving NA applications are where you might consider synthetic. Frequent prolonged track use as well.
It was originally designed to withstand longer change intervals by the Germans in WWII to save petroleum supplies.
It was perfected in the early years of jet engines, because it was the only thing that could stand up to the heat without needing changed every couple of hours.
If you were to use a 7500 mile change interval, with a 3,000 mile filter replacement interval, you could spend a lot less.
At 3000K for both, most people will see no tangible benefit from synthetic.
I use it in my car during the summer because the H22 is fairly high strung, and the ambient temps around here can approach 140* F.
But, I also go longer without changing it.
If you wanted to really know how it is doing and how it is lasting, you need to have it analyzed.
4) Honda makes the HAMP oil filter that they use on their race cars, but they are more expensive, and it is hard to find a filter better than the regular OEM one.Last edited by owequitit; 05-07-2007, 06:59 PM.

I'm running and have been running Mobil1 5W30 on my red Accord project motor since about 35,000 miles ago, when I installed all the performance project parts. I'm going to experiment with Royal Purple 5W-30 synthetic next oil change and post my results after a good testing of it (perhaps on the 2nd oil change of it or end of the first).
I currently use Mobil1 5W30 synthetic with Purolator premium plus oil filter. I run it for 7000 miles before I change the oil and filter. I've had no problems and everytime I'd done a valve lash adjustment, the whole top of cylinder head and rocker arm area are SO clean, it's unbelieveable, has a gold-like color to it all. No oil build up/carbonization noticed.

i just changed my oil last week, new filter from Napa and 5w30 reg oil....
Well, recently I read this thread and it got me thinking about my diminishing fuel economy....what could I do? I keep the l'il bitch tuned. New plugs and wires recently...fuel filter last summer (about 30,000 kms ago), brand new K and N air filter in december, reg oil changes..
Today, i bought the Royal Purple 10w30 and changed the oil--it was 600 km ago that i changed it.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for any improvements.
The car certainly doesn't feel gutless with 430,000 kms on it but, I'm not impressed with the fuel efficiency.YEP. I AM Canadian.
1990 Accord EX 220,000 KM. Essentially stock with 15" alloys and chin spoiler added. K&N filter and Bosch plugs. ICE COLD A/C which I love!
1992 white EX 4 dr, 5 spd. (602,000 Kms and I JUST RETIRED IT. SO SAD!) DEC 9TH, 2005 - MAY 31, 2012. I added 229,000 kms to it. Great car!
