    transmission related starting problem?

Hey, I've been off the forums for a while due to lack of internet at my residence. I've been working on my 91 honda accord LX F22a. Had the engine out and I'm not getting spark from the coil. All the systems in the distributor seem to be ok by reading the resistance on each device (TDC sensor and etc.) I've went through about 4 ECUs and I'm almost certain it's something stupid and simple. In the proces a friend accidently broke my shifter cable(automatic) where it enters the transmission. Now my shifter wont shift at all, almost like it's binding and refuses to move. Could this problem prevent my car from even starting? I know I have a transmission computer and I wasnt sure if that computer tells my ECU not to start the car.
Oh, and would I have to change out the transmission computer if I convert my car over to a manual? Just curious. Thanks you guys.

it should only try to start if the car is in park you said the linkage broke somewhere so check that again to make sure where you reconnected it didn't come loose again. chances are you probably just have it out of gear even though your auto lever says you have it in park but just call up honda or go down to a salvage yard and have them pull the same cable from a dead car just like yours, then read sections 7B-3 and 7B-4 from Haynes on how to install it.

i don't think 5spds have a tcu only because you're the one controlling all the shift points.

5spd dont have a TCU but it does look for that clutch switch to start up unless you bypass it.

Yeah but the engine shouldn't even turn over if a clutch switch is bad (manual) or linkage is out of adjustment (auto)
