    My compressor went boom....

So, my AC compressor kinda decided to stop working a few months ago and I never got it fixed, then today it started smoking on me.(Does it run off of the cars oil?) So I dabbed some water on it and sprayed a bit of WD-40 and drove it home(.5 miles). So, what can I do as a quick fix? I don't need my AC right now so I could pull the belt off, but that would in turn take it off of my alt. which would mean my car would have serious issues starting. Would it be okay if I just keep hitting it with WD-40 until it gets fixed(few weeks)? How serious of an issue is this in terms of engine health? I have to drive someplace tonight but I dunno what I should do now.

alternator doesnt start your car. battery does.

But the alternator charges your battery so it doesnt drain to hell while youre driving.

the a/c compressor has it's own oil supply.

there are lots of people with out a/c on here. the alternator and a/c are not on the same belt. later.

Then what does that belt connect to? 93 Accord LX BTW.

I just looked again and I was like WTF...My issue lies in the pulley though. If I get a smaller belt($$$?), wont I still have to take off the pulley for the compressor or take it all out?

you don't have to take the compressor off, just install the new belt that goes from the crankshaft to the alternator and u will be fine

In other words a 93 Accord DX Alt belt? Any specific name for it? Or model #?

wouldn't know the number, but just walk into autozone or any parts store and ask for the 93 accord dx or just tell them u don't have a/c

YES! I got the belt. Last one. Now I just gotta figure out how to change them out since i've never done that before. And it will have to wait till tomorrow so hopefully it will last that long. Or, would a pep-boys type place be able to put it on for cheap since I don't have many tools. The guy told me I have to losen up the alternator and have another person pull it a little bit while the belt gets slipped on. True? I don't want to try to tackle it and run out of time ya know.

Well, I kinda had to pay a place to do it. While running errands for work and going to lunch, the compressor decided to catch fire. So I hosed that bitch down with water, ripped the belt off, let it dry up some and had the place charge me $60 just to change the damn thing! So, needless to say i'm pissed. And it lightly rubs against the edge of the pulley. Issue or not? They said it was but then again they are in it for the money and wanted to charge me $80 to get the pulley off.
