busted heater knob??

a couple days ago i noticed that when i try to move the cool/warm knob it gives me resistance. it will stay all the way on the cool side, but when i move it to warm... about half way through turning it, it gets hard to turn. and when i put it all the way to warm, it springs back and only goes 3/4 of the way to warm. i know i wont be needing the heater for a while, but id still like to know whats wrong.

it just started happening randomly, and i hadnt touched the knobs in any way to break something.

take off the knobs,and then the climate control unit(like 4 screws) dash trims also gotta come off.make shure your cabla is in its proper slot.this happend to me but i had no resistance.the cable came out of its slot,it has a metal circle piece at the begginning of the cable that piece should be on the post.just make shure its not kinked and that its on that post.does that make sense?
