    brighter lowbeams(jdm)

    i just got my cb3 headlights, and im still lovin'em... but im trying to figure out how to increase the light output on the h4(lowbeams). it has 3 plugs(ground, low and highbeam filament). is each filament the same wattage? if i were to unplug the clip the way it is and move the wire over so the power is going to the other filament, would that make a difference?

    if not, if i were to splice the power from where the stock bulbs used to clip into, and run it to both filaments, would that overload the system?

    i know some of you might be worried about folks driving around with their brights on, but i dont think itll matter too much cause the heads have a cutoff and i can just aim them down a little more.

    depending on the voltage loss you can run a relay system to get more power out of the bulbs. basically from the light switch to the head light your loosing amperage with old grounds, and old wires...sometimes.

    the way to test this is to take out the bulb while its connected, turn it on and try to tap the lines on teh bulb with a voltage tester to test the voltage. if its lower than 12.9 volts with the car on then you may wanna concider upgrading the harness with a relay. low volts like 11.9 or so.

    i measured mine its at 13.4 volts constant so i dont need a relay system to up the power.

    but you can also just run your high beams if u like, im not sure exactly but the reason why there is 3 prongs on the harness is

    ground
    low
    high

    you can probably take one of the low wires and tap it to the high, but im not sure if it will run at full high beam power or just a little more (kinda like the 9005 to 9006 conversion).

    each filament in the bulb is differnt wattage, i think 55/65 or maybe a bit higher. high is 65 low is 55 etc.

    You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

      Yeah, I can get 80/100 watt bulbs from sylvania, Hella, or Jahn ($25 per pair, shipped). The way they work is that when the highs beams are on, BOTH filaments are being used.

          well i tried moving the 12v wire over to the 3rd unused prong, and they came on, but very dim. looked like they were supposed to be driving lights. i dont want to use the actual highs(h1) at all, i just want to mess with the low bulb. ive seen 90/100w bulbs, but i dont know how safe they are.

          under specs of the bulb is says "No overheat (wiring is protected) "... now how is that possible? how can a high wattage bulb protect the wiring? or is that just more ebay bullshit.
