Parts sites with Honda part numbers, which ones?

I'm trying to use the Honda part numbers to verify switchable and same parts. Which internet parts sellers or catalogs have the feature of using Honda manufacturer's parts numbers, even if the part is not available? Nothing is more frustrating than to find no part number only because the part is out of stock.

Thanks, bresk8r87 and deckeda. I went to those sites and it is a help. Do you know if those first 5 numbers designate the part, with the next 3 letters/numbers combination designating the manufacturer, and the last 3 letters/numbers combination designating any changes?

          Sorry, I'm lost.

San Leandro shows actual Honda part numbers when viewing search results --- same as your local dealer. Search for the same part on a different Honda; if it's the same part, it's the same part ... is that what you mean?

You can do the same thing, indirectly, with Majestic (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...artsSearch.jsp)

You can search Honda part #s (but you have to know what they are) but the results come back with only their inventory #s.

          Hope that helps.

Sorry, I was trying to inquire, since I don't have the answer.

Here’s what I’m trying to do. I am trying to find compatible or interchangeable parts from different years and/or models. For example, we know that the front (steering) knuckles for the Accord years 1990 thru 1997 are interchangeable, and they differ for left and right.

Accord 1990 front right knuckle part number is 51210-SM4-J53

Accord 1997 front right knuckle part number is 51210-SV4-J50

              And another
Accord 1997 front right knuckle part number is 51210-SV4-J52

Does anyone know Honda’s numbering system? Is the SM4 and SV4 indicating a different manufacturer? Or a modification?

Is the J53, J50, and J52 indicating different manufacturers, or modifications?

And of course, the LEFT knuckle is a different first set of 5 numbers, 51215-xxx-xxx.

I’d be happy if someone can explain it to us.

              Thanks.

I see what you're saying now, but I don't know if it will give you a real-world answer. Take for example the knuckle part #s you have there.

They are different numbers, and maybe/probably-but-not-necessarily different parts.

What I mean is, if your theory about the manufacturers is true, then they could be the same exact part still. But even if there was a small change (the '97 might have an ABS fitting lacking on the '90 for example) that doesn't rule out its use for somebody if that difference isn't important or noticeable to them.

There are a few folks here that work at dealers --- they might know, or you could ask your local Honda dealer ... those knuckles would be an interesting one to ask about.

In the short run you may just want to ask on a case-by-case basis about a certain part to get the real world skinny, regardless of part #.

Thanks for the Bernardi link. That one atleast has a bit more intelligence to it and notes discontinued parts.

first set of numbers is the part designation
                    2nd set is model related
3rd set is the revision of the part, as in a 1991 pt3 ecu may have a diff program than a 1992 pt3 ecu.

Thanks. Now it makes more sense to me. I do realize that slight modifications might still allow interchangeability. So it still does boil down to practical knowledge and experience. Thank you to all.
