    tach/idle/startup problem - help

ok, I've searched but maybe someone can point me to the right thread in case if I've missed it - here's my setup & problem:

    SETUP
    ------

    cb7 ex-coupe/jdm h22a m2a4 swap/auto-5sp. changeover

    PROBLEM
    --------

-- for a while now my idle has not been registering on my tach. Car is running fine but when at full-stop/neutral the tach is at "0" even though car is running and there is a steady idle (no up/down revving like other threads).

-- tach registers revs only when in gear, accelerating, etc. but is off by +/- 500 rpms.

-- lately car has not been starting (usually in the afternoons, when hot - but engine turns over, alternator/battery are good).

Any thoughts?? someone told me to check out the distributor, sound like the right direction?? I haven't yet changed cap/rotor/plugs/wires since I did the swap so planning on doing that this weekend.

    Thanks in advance

Check the wiring on the tach. Sounds like the rpm output isnt sending a clear signal to the gauge cluster. If I remember the signal goes directly to the gauge cluster and such. You could also just have a bad tach/gauge cluster. And for your car not startin up could be the main relay since those are the symptoms. But I forgot the wire color for tach output sorry bout that ill eventually think of what it is I think it was blue if I remember.

thanx for the replies guys. I replaced the cap/rotor/ignition coil already. Car starts up MUCH BETTER but still got the prob. w/ the tach. Will be replacing the igniter as soon as the part comes in this week - thanx xfactortype1.

NAiL05: As for the gauge cluster - I'm pretty sure there's no prob. w/ it or the wiring. I swapped out for a 5sp. cluster w/ the motor swap and no probs. for over a year.

The speedo, temp/fuel, indicator lights work fine - it's just the tach. thatz wacked ... we'll see what happens when I change the igniter.
