    replacng distributor... how to?

So yeah, since i took the whole distributor off my other engine, i need to put it back on to swap that engine into my car.

Now the thing is.. What is the proper way to do this. I saw this thread:
    http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...ng+distributor

And I see you need a timming light gun thing? How does it work etc?

I saw some people said just put the distributor on there and start it. if it does not start move it towards firewall. Is this correct? will this fuck anything up?

I need to get my car going again and any help with help me!

I just did it day before yesterday, its easy. Now the piece that joins to the end of the camshaft is notched and only meant to go in one way. If you are removing an old one, look at which way its pointed and point the new one the same way.

I have the old one close by, I'll take a picture.

Install the dizzy and temporarily attach the top bolt, not tightly, just slightly snug so you can turn the dizzy as you check the timing.

Install the plug wires, hook up the electrical connectors, and go get your timing light.

Bridge your service connector (the one for checking CELS) and fire up the car. Bring it to NOT (normal operating temperature) then attach the timing light to the battery and clamp it to the 4th plug wire, the one furthest to the right (driver side).

    Remove the timing hole cover.

Now you need to line up the gunsights, then align them with the red mark. The gunsight notches can be hard to see, so I use a flashlight to get a look at where they are. Fire the timing light at the hole and adjust the dizzy by hand to bring the red mark in alignment. Once you have it where you want it, you can tighten down all the bolts and wrap it up.

Sorry I don't have pics for everything, check out the service manual here.

It's just too late at night to take pictures of everything.

I don't have information for external dizzys, but I assume its mostly the same except the last step, connect the coil.

If you have any questions let me know.

The other day Mike took off my distributor to adjust the valves. We didn't have a timing light, so he just inserted it until it lined up. I think he said that if the bolt is in the middle, it should be right.

BTW, do I need to purchase an "advance timing light" or will this just work fine on our cars ? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=3343

why would you take off the dizzy for a valve adjustment?

and just get a timig light from sears.

its pretty much impossible to install the dizzy wrong.

F22 dizzy's have this thing where you CANT get it 180* off. It will only go it ONE way. believe me, ive tried it, read a helms or haynes manual, its in there. just get the rotor to line up with the lines, and insert it.

                firing order is 1-3-4-2

#1 on the dizzy is the bottom left nipple. and it goes counter clockwise.(for internal coils, i duno how it is for external)

                2 4
                1 3

also, this is not exact, but its pretty close to being exact. to get the dizzy timing at 15* BDTC, center all of its mounting points. when adjusting it, pushing it away from you(towards firewall) is advancing, and the opposite is retarding. (I think)

I guess he took it off so that it would be less cluttered during adjustment. The coil was also removed. BTW, I forgot to mention that we were also changing the IM gasket.
