    Really confusing Problem... Idle.

So, before y'all jump to conclusions about it being the FITV or the IACV or a Vacuum leak, please read all the symptoms.
Car (93 LX, 5 speed, with p12 ecu) has always run great till this weekend. Took a 125 mile trip to the ocean, idle was really high (1200RPM) when I got there. When I got back (another 125 miles) and got off the freeway, I stopped and the idle started searching back and forth between 1000-1500.
Figuring it was the IAC or the FITV I checked both, and neither is leaking, and both work correctly. So, I decided I would just turn the idle down via the idle screw. Turned it WAY WAY in to get the RPM back down to 700 +-50. After doing that, the car no longer lopes.
The only problem is that it now runs much rougher than before, and there is a noticeably louder whine coming from the intake. When it was searching back and forth, there was a horrible whine and gurgling sound coming from the intake. WTF?!
Why? Because... Life Happens @ 4500 RPM

Okay, if you have checked the sensors, have you checked the vacuum lines? If they are okay, then possibly you have leaks in your air intake system, causing erratic idle and the loud whine.

Yeah, I checked for a vaccum leak by spraying carb cleaner around all the gaskets... and all my Vacuum lines are in really good shape. So.... I think it is a little more complicated than that.

my car does that once in a while when i take long trips. like, when i stop it starts surging or just idles higher than normal. all i do is give it a good rev at idle and it goes away usually.

Thomas_LX I was having the same damn problem this weekend !!! same noise and all... idle was good bouncing from time to time then i cleaned everything checked for vac leaks then my idle went high. Well anyways i cleared the ecu and all that jazz 5 mins later i went to start it and had high idle so i adjusted it down and it was like 3-4 turns of the screw.. anyhow that intake noise sucks ass. Btw i took it for a hard drive then bled the coolent and its all good now.( FOR NOW )
