    Speedometer Question

Did a lot of searches on this topic and didn't really find what i'm looking for. So here goes: My speedometer started acting up. The needle would drop to zero occassionally and as soon as i step on the gas it will go back to the right place. First guess was Speed sensor, so i bought one on Ebay for like $30. A few days later it started acting up again and now it's doing it all the time. No check engine light, no performance issues, just that annoying needle bouncing around. Could it be the cheap speed sensor on ebay already went bad? Speedometer in gauge cluster? thanks in advance

I have the speedo issue too. I hope that ebay sensor works... but a crappy sensor could be the cause still. Another possibility is you may have a bad connection in the cluster. I had that issue on a different car and as soon as I taped the connectors together, we had a perfectly functioning speedo. If you really wanted to, you could get new connectors. Just some ideas. Good luck.

Please dont do that in NYC lol. You already know how hard it is to park where you live at and loosing PS is gonna be even more fun.

Interesting. My VSS switch was replaced about 2 years ago --- no speedo, cruise, Sport light gone crazy --- the classic symptoms.

A few days ago I suffer from none of that but I'm going 60, then instantly "65" and holding, then the true 60 ... and so on.

Damn, the whole VSS seems a bit more ... involved.

Note Above: I'm not replacing just the switch .. I'll be replacing the entire assembly.
It's apparent that the drive gear (gear shaft) could be stripped .. or, stripping, worn out, etc ..

I realize this is an old post. I just replaced my VSS and the speedo worked good for a couple of days then just crapped out and doesnt move off of zero. The old sensor bounced around and worked 1/4 of the time. Should I go ahead and replace the entire unit and not just the electrical portion like I already have?
