Basically opens the secondaries in the IM when it hits a certain RPM. Thats the easiest explanation.

Technically you dont. If you dont install it just stays open all the time which you lose low end and eat more gas if i remember correctly. I need to go look at my a6 mani again.

Don't leave it open. The last guy is right, you can, but it KILLS (like brutally rapes and murders) your mileage and low end (I lost like 3mpg and would bog below 2,500RPM. It's really bad.). I watched Ebay for mine for ages and never found one. I finally got a guy to go to a junkyard by him to get one because I couldn't find one at my local junkyards. When I took the vaccum lines off it though, the damn things must have been fused to it somehow or another, because it broke the part of the solenoid that the lines go on. If you think you might be able to figure a way to get it to work though (I was thinking a small enough plastic vaccum line cut and fiberglassed on would do) I can sell you that one. I got another one when I was lucky enough to find a CB7 with an A6 at a junkyard. I can also see if I can find another. BTW, don't go to the dealer. That damn tank and solenoid combo are damn near $200
