    running itb's=poor filtering

just thinking recently. i saw wes starting his itb project. a guy at the shop has a k20 w/itb's, and from time to time i thought about h22 itbs... not that i would actually buy them. BUT, if all these people are running itb's, theyre obviously running without a filter. how bad is it actually, to run without a filter? i would think there might be power to be had with a regular intake with a velocity stack w/o a filter. if people running itb's do it, why doesnt anyone with a normal intake?

A lot of muscle guys do, I guess its not that bad.

Guess it depends what you're most concerned about

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

u can probably create some kind of thing where the air that it draws it from has a filter on it.

or just get like 4 mini filters =)
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

I always wondered that myself. Too tired to search, but here's a link of specs for a lot of bike itbs. Someone put it somewhere. http://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/i...?topic=39723.0

They have a mesh thingy that looks somewhat like a strainer. Or I have also seen ones with some type of cloth like sock on each barrel so dunno. And yea I guess you gotta sacrifice somethings if you want power.

Most have a filter or strainer. They are just further inside the horns than you can usually see

If there is a plenum over the venturies....the intake charge is easy to filter. But, if there's not pan-tee-hoes will suffice, or some metal mesh pinched between the venturies and the TBs like MRX said.

              Plenum over ITB setup:

Companies like TWM also make airboxes for them, that basically allow you to hook an intake to the airbox.

BMW does something similar with the airboxes for the filter, and then a tube to the ITB plenums or airboxes.

It seems to initially defeat the purpose, but the advantage of ITB's is the runner lenght and individual airflow metering to the cylinders.

If the airbox volume is large enough (i.e. can flow equal to or greater than the ITB's) then there probably isn't much of a tradeoff for performance.

I run with a short ram intake with velocity stack open. I am getting ready to put a "filter" in it like a sock or some sort of mesh just so leaves and stuff big does not get through. I think it also has to do with the area you live in. I live in San Diego so there is not much of dirt or wind around. But i know other places like AZ and areas have more dirt, moisture, and wind around. I don't think I would run a CAI with velocity stack.

                    check my thread again.

going to run an ITG airfilter and a custom adapter that fits around my stock velocity stacks.

im not sure where one would run no filtration...in the street, thrs a lot of particles, in the mountain, a lot of dirt.

id run no filters on the dyno only.
