Well, I decided to begin the test to decide, for myself at least, whether adding acetone to your gas will improve fuel economy.
My normal driving technique is in city, stop and go, short distance.
Before I started the experiment.....
$43.71 @ 2.919 per gallon
14.975 gallons filled to the top
Trip odo showed 355.58 miles
23.744 mpg
followed by
$42.22 @ 2.869 per gallon
14.715 gallons filled to top
Trip odo showed 348.19 miles
23.662 mpg
Now I started the experiment by trying to stay as conservative as possible on the gas pedal. Unfortunatly I went WOT twice during this period and got on the gas hard 3 times, but for the most part I tried to drive as relaxed as possible. (It's not always easy) The results of conservative driving yielded....
$43.12 @ 2.869 per gallon
15.030 gallons filled to top
Trip odo showed 386.88 miles
25.740 mpg
Today I filled it up full and then picked up some pure acetone. It was an 8 oz bottle and I used half. Approx. 4 oz added to 15 gallons of fuel. The website I had read recommended 2-3 oz per 10 gallons of fuel. That would be 4-6 for 20 so I just figured 4 oz would be good without overdoing it.
So now I begin driving with acetone, and I'm trying to drive normally, not conservatively. Averaging my previous "normal" driving gives you 23.703. When this tank finishes I'll let you know the results.
