    Blow gasket, need help!

I am badly leaking oil from the gasket between the block and the crank pulley. How hard would it be to replace that gasketl? I am trying to figure out whether i can fix this myself. I don't have a cherry picker so I can't pull the motor if that is required. The motor is an f22a1. Here is a pic of the gasket I am talking about:

Well that particular gasket looks like the gasket that goes on the edge of the timing belt cover. That isnt meant to hold oil or any fluids, just keep crap out.

Where is the oil pouring from? If its only at the bottom, check to make sure that it isnt the oil pan gasket.

If its coming from up higher....
How bad is it pouring oil, and how long has it been doing it? Sounds like it could be the front main seal (crankshaft seal), front balancer seal (sometimes walks out), could be the oil pump assembly or gear (not all that likely), or could be the headgasket.

I already replaced the oil pan gasket and that didn't fix it. It can't see the leak directly, but it seems to be coming from the side of the block right where that gasket is. When i turn the car on oil pours out at about 2 quarts a min. So its bad to say the least. It just happened one day when i was driving a couple minutes from my house. I noticed my oil pressure gauge dropped and then about 30 seconds later the oil light came on.

damn lucky for having that gauge. obviously dont drive the car like it is. Do you have enough tools and crap to take off the downpipe, oil pan, timing belt, and the oil pump assy?

If so, take off the alt/PS belts, and then take off that lower cover, and see which one is leaking.

My guess is either the crankshaft seal or the front balancer. Both are replaced by taking off the oil pump assy. I think I saw somewhere that someone was able to do it w/o taking off the whole assembly, and if so.. I wanna know how and if it actually works.

well this is actually on my prelude, which is turbo. right now i have the downpipe off so i could get the oil pan off. so it is somewhat already taken apart. I do have tools, but i have never tried to take off the timing belt or any other belts. So if i had some instructions i could get it apart.

Rear Main Seal is on the tranny side his is comin from the other side. And get a haynes manual it will help you out. Sounds like one of the seals inside the timing cover took a crap on you.

I Think Aero may have nailed it in his first post.
I'd be looking very closely to the Balance Shaft Seal Walking out if the retainer isn't fitted.
There was a post on here a couple of months back about this problem.
I looked it up on Shopkey and downloaded the Tech Bulletin and posted it on OZACCORD.COM.
Even though it relates to 94 on Engines it still pays to be sure.

Heres The Link to the PDF File I saved.

                  Balance Shaft Seal Retainer

                  Cheers
                  Geoff.
