Well, the weirdest thing happened to me today, and I dunno what happened...The car was fine in the morning..Drove to the dentist, then to the bank, and I figured I should do an oil change..Soo I went home, jacked up the car, did an oil change, put the car down, and tried to start the car...It won't start It cranks, but it won't turn over..And NO, it can't be the main relay, 'coz I just fixed that, and I know for a fact that the main relay kicks in everytime I turn the ignition...
Been fiddling with my car ever since, and I still couldn't get it to start..I figure, to start, I need air, fuel and spark..I got air (duh..) I opened the banjo bolt for the fuel line, turned the key, and as soon as main relay kicks in, gas squirted everywhere...Sooo that's fine..The only thing left is spark...I cleaned the contacts on the dizzy cap and rotor, still no spark..Oh I also checked the timing belt, and it's fine..(Ended up breaking one valve cover stud Another story for another time..)
So I took out my Chilton's manual, and it says to check the ignition coil..So I did..I measured the resistance according to the manual, and everything read okay (Or at least I think it did) Frustrated, I took one spark plug out, plug it in to one of the four spark plug wires, and cranked the car..No spark..Switched to another wire..Still no spark..I got no spark comin at all! And it can't be the spark plug wires, 'coz I bought them when I bought this car (About 2 years ago..) Bad spark plugs? Maybe, but even if it's bad, I'd still be able to see some spark right?
Soo I'm guessing this would be the dizzy...But I jus wanna see if I can get some input as to how I can diagnose this, or if there's another way to check..I've checked all my fuses, and they're all fine..
Anyone has any input for me? If it is the distributor, then I have another question..Should I just grab a used distributor from a junkyard, or would it be better if I just get a new cap, rotor and ignition coil? Anything else that could be wrong with a distributor other than those 3 parts?
Aargh so frustrated..I hate it when my car dies on me out of the blues like this
I'm getting new spark plugs for sure tho (I figure it's about time to replace them n e wayz), but my concern is on the distributor, and how I can fix this problem...Anyone has any input for me? Is there something that I'm missing? Plz help a brotha out guys...Thanks a lot..
Ronald
