Car starting problem again (no spark) =(

Well, the weirdest thing happened to me today, and I dunno what happened...The car was fine in the morning..Drove to the dentist, then to the bank, and I figured I should do an oil change..Soo I went home, jacked up the car, did an oil change, put the car down, and tried to start the car...It won't start It cranks, but it won't turn over..And NO, it can't be the main relay, 'coz I just fixed that, and I know for a fact that the main relay kicks in everytime I turn the ignition...

Been fiddling with my car ever since, and I still couldn't get it to start..I figure, to start, I need air, fuel and spark..I got air (duh..) I opened the banjo bolt for the fuel line, turned the key, and as soon as main relay kicks in, gas squirted everywhere...Sooo that's fine..The only thing left is spark...I cleaned the contacts on the dizzy cap and rotor, still no spark..Oh I also checked the timing belt, and it's fine..(Ended up breaking one valve cover stud Another story for another time..)

So I took out my Chilton's manual, and it says to check the ignition coil..So I did..I measured the resistance according to the manual, and everything read okay (Or at least I think it did) Frustrated, I took one spark plug out, plug it in to one of the four spark plug wires, and cranked the car..No spark..Switched to another wire..Still no spark..I got no spark comin at all! And it can't be the spark plug wires, 'coz I bought them when I bought this car (About 2 years ago..) Bad spark plugs? Maybe, but even if it's bad, I'd still be able to see some spark right?

Soo I'm guessing this would be the dizzy...But I jus wanna see if I can get some input as to how I can diagnose this, or if there's another way to check..I've checked all my fuses, and they're all fine..

Anyone has any input for me? If it is the distributor, then I have another question..Should I just grab a used distributor from a junkyard, or would it be better if I just get a new cap, rotor and ignition coil? Anything else that could be wrong with a distributor other than those 3 parts?

Aargh so frustrated..I hate it when my car dies on me out of the blues like this

I'm getting new spark plugs for sure tho (I figure it's about time to replace them n e wayz), but my concern is on the distributor, and how I can fix this problem...Anyone has any input for me? Is there something that I'm missing? Plz help a brotha out guys...Thanks a lot..

the SAME thing happens to me...i can drive around with no problems..then park it and try to start it and it won't start...and it does this VERY randomly...one of my teachers told me that the distributor assemblies had a recall on them back in the days..i never changed it cuz it was working fine..about three days ago i got in with my friend and it did the same thing..so we took his car instead..hit the remote start...yes i have remote start on a 5 spd cuz they bypass the clutch switch wire, so i dont have to hold the clutch in when starting it..when we got back and boom fired right up..today it did the same thing..i was out there for almost half an hour trying to get it started to get to skool...finally it started..and drove with no problems..asked another teacher what cud be the problem..he said try using a diff brand of gas..cuz i only use 87 from mobil and he said thats good but just try a diff brand..and also add some Marvel Mystery oil..he says it works wonders for him..so imma try both things see what happens..also it did the same thing after skool...turned it on with remote start, turned on no problems..i was standing there talking to my friends for a while and it shut off cuz the remote start timed out..got in tried to start and would not start..let it sit for about 5 mins and then tried again and started with no problems....this problem is driving me crazy too..if someone has some helpful insight for us, please let us kno...pe@ce love and chicken grease from the middle east..

Hey man, your problem sounds more like it's coming from the main relay...If you get that relay fixed, you shouldn't be having those problems anymore

Ah, just to add some more rants, my ECU did not throw any CEL today....And now I'm actually kinda worried, 'coz I jus realized how many times I cranked the car today (Which was a lot) And now I'm just thinking of all the fuel that's been sprayed in to the cylinders, jus sitting there, waiting to be burned..Hope they won't be eating up my piston rings tonight, and hope that they won't eat my cat converter when I finally get some spark back on to those spark plugs..

How do you know you dont have spark?? Never did you mention shorting a wire to ground to see if there was actual spark. Do that first then I 'll try to help. Bad spark plugs will not prevent spark at this point. The spark is going into the plugs not coming out of them.

I had that happen on my 90, I switched the distributor out with one I had lying around and it was fixed. This was an internal coil type, but I believe it was the ignitor that had failed. No signs, just worked one day, then stopped working the next.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

I would say look at your ignitor. IF your coil tested ok then that would be the next culprit.

broken timing belt would keep it from getting spark.... rotor in distributor would not turn so no spark is produced....
