Neutral+Clutch out= Grinding "whooshing"

When I am in Neutral and I let the clutch out (take my foot off it) I hear this grinding/wooshing/Rubbing sound coming from the engine bay. Almost like 2 metal surfaces rubbing against each other. Is this a common problem? Are there fixes?

sounds like a release bearing or pressure plate issue, have you tried bleeding the clutch?

Negative on the bleeding. Any other suggestions? Would bleeding acutally help? I was thinking pressure plate.

If you put light pressure on the clutch so the pressure plate touches the release bearing does the noise stop? I think your pedal is just loose. you can loosen the bump stop so that the clutch height is a little lower and the bearing wont rattle around anymore because it will be lightly touching the pressure plate diaphram.

The same situation happened to me, and what I did to fix it was lie on my back under the drivers seat so I could look up under the steering colum where the pedal attaches. If you do that you will see where there is a rubber bumper attached to a bolt, which stops the clutch pedal from sitting any higher off the floor. There is also a little switch there to detect when the clutch is out. ANyway, if you loosen that bolt a couple of turns the clutch pedal will sit about a 1/2 inch or so lower than it used to. There is also a clutch adjustment procedure with a diagram in the haynes manual.

Its definitely the release throwoutbearing failure. Get in there and change it.

Well my buddies 96 civic dx had that same sound except it was a loose bearing that was left in when they switched out his new tranny and it totally destroyed everything. Cracked the casing, ate the clutch up, destroyed the starter and numerous other things...pretty shitty.

Ha and when the shop that did this shitty work installed it they put in a cheap flywheel and stole his act steet flywheel...they are so fucked its not even funny!
